recommend both film and book
I saw the film, read the book, and highly recommend both. The film follows the book for most of the story which it relates accurately.I tend to prefer the setting of the film, with the grandmere in person in NYC. Her lifetime valedictory address at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for her artistic achievement, growing out of her drawings depicted in the story narrative, emphasizes that the saving of her life has brought goodness and beauty to the world at a high level. Upon reflection, the reverse implies all that was lost in the unnecessary deaths of millions in WWII.In the book I strongly recommend studying the Afterward, Author's Note, Dedication, Glossary (which is much more than a glossary), Suggested Reading List, and Bibliography which cover the last 13 pages and give substantial additional background. Photos of people who were inspiration for the book's characters are shown. The author cites The Diary of Anne Frank as long being heavily influential. While not Jewish herself, the author's husband is Jewish and she presents how his family background heavily influenced her writing. We will be viewing the film at our church group - there's already a buzz - and I will recommend the book as well.

A Must Watch
It's an EXCELLENT movie. If you've read and watched "Wonder" and followed it by reading "White Bird," you won't be disappointed. The movie is very well done, following the book well, and sheds light on such an important time in our world's history. Our family HIGHLY recommends the movie.

Excellent Movie Until The "Lecture" at the End
This is a beautifully crafted motion picture which tugs at ones heartstrings.A terrific and absorbing watch until the very end when a totally unnecessary "lecture" in a museum is delivered by the principle character. This ends up being a typical modern era, heavy handed, politically correct, artificially staged, morality lecture aimed blatantly dead ahead at the theatre audience. This distracts, is intrusive, and is not at all needed as the rest of the film, taken by itself, so successfully engages and speaks volumes to the viewer.Edit out that scene and you are left with a tightly constructed, powerful and totally engaging film. One star deducted from what could have been a five star motion picture. The only other issue is with the young actors at the beginning of the film. Why do they insist on, and the director permit, talking so rapidly and with such poor elocution that they are barely, if at all, understandable?

One Of The Most Amazing Movies I’ve Ever Seen…
First, I read “Wonder” by R.J. Palacio, loved it and thoroughly enjoyed the movie adaptation. Then it was on to the graphic novel “White Bird”, which was a tie-in with the Wonder series. I was very excited when I found out that this beautiful novel would be coming to the big screen, so I waited for it’s release, and waited…and due to writer’s strikes, waited some more, for a long time…My husband and I went to see it on the first day of its release, and I was mesmerized from the start. It is always a pleasant surprise when a movie adaptation closely follows a beloved book, and this one did just that! I couldn’t wait to buy the Blu ray and watch it again, so tonight, I did. Snuggled up under a warm blanket with my hubby, we both enjoyed it again. And now I’m headed to bed with a serious case of “movie hangover” (that’s what happens when I watch something so beautiful that I can’t think about anything else for several hours afterwards).I highly recommend this movie, to everyone, everywhere.
