I purchased the ROG x870-a motherboard in January 2025 for $270 for my white gaming PC build and I have been thoroughly happy with the performance and features of this motherboard. I am currently pairing this motherboard with a Ryzen 7 9800x3d cpu, 64gb of DDR5 ram and a Gigabyte Aorus Master 5080 GPU. The board is well constructed with solid thermal heatsinks and plenty of PCI-e slots for SSDs, the RGB lighting is subtle and pairs well with the rest of my machine. The bios is easy to use and the AI overclocker feature makes it easy for beginners to unlock additional CPU performance, adding additional speed to my 9800x3d boost clocks and running my memory at EXPO settings of 6000 mt/s with no issues. At $270 it's a great price for a quality x870 chipset board.

The media could not be loaded. This motherboard would be a great start to any build. The robust power delivery and AI overclocking and cooling tools make it easy for both new PC builders and experts with multiple builds under their belt.The board looks fantastic with it's black and silver aesthetic that makes it pop and draw the eye.The 10 usb-a ports and 2 usb-c ports on back give you a plethora of options when it's comes to plugging in peripherals or external storage.The Wi-Fi works great, but you will have to download the driver's from the Asus website for it to function, so either have them ready on a jump drive when installing windows or plug in an Ethernet cable until Windows is all setup.The only issue with this board that I ran into was the BIOS flashback utility. I bought a 9800x3d along with the motherboard and out of the box the Mobo had the 2204 BIOS version, which was the patch to better the stability on Ryzen 9000 series processors. Upon checking CPU compatibility Asus recommend BIOS version 2403. After downloading the newest BIOS version (2704) to the root of a 16g 2.0 jump drive and renaming it using the BIOS renaming tool that comes with the download I could not get the BIOS flashback to work. Every time I attempted it, with multiple different jump drives, the green light on the back of the motherboard that's supposed to start blinking when the BIOS flashback initializes just stayed a solid green, which means the flashback was not initializing. I could not get the BIOS flashback function to work at all. Frustrated I attempted to just boot the PC up to see if I could get it to post, and luckily, it did! Using the ez flash utility in the BIOS I was able to update it with no issues and everything has been running smooth as can be!Overall I would highly recommend this board to anyone looking to build a new PC. It looks great and checks all the boxes a great motherboard should!

what i like:white pcb board, its sickmultiple fan headers,4 m’2 slots, 2 connected to the cpu and 2 connected to the pcie slots; plenty of room to upgrade your storagemultiple argb headers if you’re like me and gotta have purple rgb with the white boardsuper fast post and boot time, has lights showing it posting from cpu to vga to bootplenty of room for lots of ram if you’re a gamer you wont meet the limit for a whilethis board is future proof for the next 3-4 years as of 2025usb c, bios flashback, and usb 3 to 4 i believe. lots of Usb portswhat i dont like (most are nitpicky):when assembling the solder on the bottom cut my finger, it can be sharp so be careful when holding the boardheaders for specific things are harder to stretch cords to making it look ugly, cable management is necessary but i cba to sort that outtwo of my ram slots arent working, unsure if its the cpu or the board itself which i have 32 gb installed so im not super worried about as of right nowthe cpu install felt very tight when putting the clip downall in all it is a beautiful board, great value for money, it is pricey if budget is a concern i would worry about your cpu, graphics and ram before finalizing your purchase. an upgrade from a 2019 board for example would leave you having to buy a new cpu ram and graphics card as well to keep up. ive used it for about a month and i havent had much trouble out of it.

First board I bought the ethernet port would not work, so I had it replaced. Received the second board and everything worked perfectly. 27 days after buying it the ethernet port went out. I thought maybe my two network cables were bad, so I bought a new network cable from Amazon and it still would not work. Tested all three cables on my wife's laptop with no problems. I plugged the WiFi antenna up and started using it. I will say the WiFi on this board is amazing. With 1GB internet I was getting over 700 Mbps on the speedtest. On the 30th day I got the solid orange DRAM light. I reseated everything on the board. CPU, GPU, RAM, and all connections. Still would not boot up. I can understand one board not working but not two. So I returned it for the Asus TUF X870-PLUS. Ten days in so far with the TUF with no problems. It even seems to run faster, probable because something was wrong with the X870-A.

First, installation was easy and straightforward. Unusually, it booted the first time after a short delay for memory tuning. I can confirm it recognizes the Corsair 2x32GB 6000 mhz kit and the Corsair 4x48GB 5600 mhz kit.The reason I am returning it is because I discovered that the Nvme slot which is supposed to support a Gen5 drive is only a Gen4. In the pictures, the drives are identical Crucial T700 4TB Gen5s. The one showing 12,000 reads is the first Nvme slot, and the one showing 6556 is the second. I have a Samsung 980 Pro Gen4 drive in the 1st Gen4 slot, and it actually performs better than the second Gen5 drive. That is the picture with the 7408 MB/s sequential reads.The board came with bios 1905, and I upgraded it to version 2124. Crystal Diskmark and Crystal DiskInfo both identify the supposed 2nd Gen5 slot as a Gen4. The manual and description are clearly incorrect.If you only need 1 Gen5 drive, then this motherboard will be just fine. If you intend to set up a Gen5 RAID array for something like video editing, this is not the board.
