Without a doubt the best book on NLP for a beginner
I loved this book. I've read a lot of NLP books and this book gives you the best insight into the beginning steps of NLP and how you can get started. In fact helped me understand much better many of the steps other books tried to convey. The story is very helpful and is always a step ahead in giving you answers to the questions that pop into your mind while reading. The format is also very helpful in that you really want to finish the book quickly and in the back there are exercises you can do yourself or with a partner. The format feels like a workshop in a book.Without a doubt the best book on NLP for a beginner that I've read and a book that helps you make sense of other books on the subject.Jon BjarnasonThe Learning Bosshttp://amazon.com/author/jonbjarnason

Short, Sweet, and Unique Introduction
This is a short (141pp.) introduction to neurolinguistic programming (NLP). NLP, in my opinion, is essentially a basket of diverse, practical psychological tools for self-improvement and helping others. Some of these tools are meditation, hypnosis, Pavlovian conditioning, and ways to better listen to and communicate with others. As the name suggests, this basket is normally held together by an extensive net of high-falutin' jargon. For instance, Pavlovian conditioning is called "anchoring." Asking specific interrogative questions is "meta-modeling."This book is written by one of NLP's co-founders and two acolytes. While an introduction, it may well clarify some areas for people already familiar with NLP. I have read a number of NLP books and found this one unique and unusually readable. This book is readable in that it is set up as a story involving several people going to one of the author's seminars and shows them practicing the techniques, having questions, and applying the techniques to their lives. This makes the concepts more comprehensible than in a straight-up explanatory book. Especially helpful are the last two chapters (18pp.) which beautifully summarize and reinforce the book's key points. It is unique in that it explains what NLP does without the mind-numbing extensive jargon of most NLP books. Still, the main elements of the jargon are there, but so easily and naturally defined and explained that this book might be helpful for those with more experience, and confusion, with NLP.One warning: to get the most out of NLP you need to develop your powers of visualization, both for sound and feeling as well as sight. Some of NLP's elements may sound goofy, and are regularly attacked by establishment psychologists. But NLP has a lot of loyal followers, so why not try some of its techniques? This book is a good start. Why only 4 stars? The book is short and at the end advertises Bandler's "products" to an extent I find annoying.

Ultimate Introduction From The Ultimate Masters
Got the book today, and read it in one go. Felt like I was in a seminar with Dr Bandler, again.Initially, I did not like the format too much: it felt a bit patronising, as this is a narrative about "joe" attending an NLP training with Richard Bandler. You get to read what Joe thinks, what do other participants tell him, and transcripts of Dr Bandler talks.Yet soon I have just decided to let my own preferences go, for good, and stopped thinking about how this book SHOULD have been written. So here it is - a very simple, straightforward introduction to NLP with excellent examples, history, analogies and metaphors. "Ultimate"because the story, and the themes run ahead of the reader's questions, and takes care to answer them all in a very friendly way. I like the format, the length of explanations and the story. There are some excellent new techniques and examples- even for seasoned NLP guys.Thanks. Is will be the best introduction I can hand out to my students and other friends.Ultimate thanks, that is ;)

A Decent Introduction, Well Explained... one of the best Intros out there...AND...
AND... what you shoould know is... if it were all that simple, every person who read this, every person who went thru an NLP program would be deliriously and gloriously happy... and spreading that happiness all around. In no time at all, all the problems of the world would be solved. Or something like that.Everyone in the book has success. Not everyone who goes thru an NLP program will ... even the best, highest quality programs. How do I know? I'm certified as a Master practitioner of NLP.Let me be clear though -- there are some VERY powerful frames within this book.It is, however, NLP simplified. Without going thru some of the stickier stuff. Like -- well, what are all the presuppositions of NLP?Bandler does mention some of his own, and they are powerful. There is little doubt in my mind about how powerful various NLP patterns can be. I've seen it in my own life... and I've seen it with others.THAT SAID...it is one of the BEST introductions to NLP...And I would highly recommend it. There are powerful concepts which could dramatically change your life... for the price and the small investment of time... it's a great investment.

Nice perspective for NLP newbies
Studying NLP for me has been a real eye opener. I am one of those people who has to read something several times for it to really sink in. With this story approach to NLP it gave me another perspective from which to consider how to utilize different aspects of NLP. I'm still working on trying to tie all of these things together.... NLP, EFT, Law of Attraction and the likes. It's a lot to absorb but I like keeping an open mind and reading all kinds of books. Hopefully one day I will put it all together. There are lots of great NLP books out there. I have read several of them. In my opinion you can never have too many books in your library.
