Fullstack React: The Complete Guide to ReactJS and Friends Paperback – September 12, 2017

I've been disappointed with nearly every programming book I've purchased in the last few years. One thing that particularly bothers me is English as a second language. This really hinders comprehension. I checked out the fullstackreact website, and though it was presented well, it read a bit like pure marketing hype. So I purchased this book with some trepidation.Well, I'm absolutely delighted to report that this book is truly excellent. EXTREMELY well written, concepts are presented quickly, cleanly, precisely and progressively. This tome heralds a long-awaited return to quality in programming books. The large size makes handling the book tougher, but reading it easier. It appears to be edited to perfection, as well. 97 pages in, and I've not encountered a single typo or incorrect line of code. Bravo to the fullstack team, I'm truly excited to be learning React the 'right' way (as claimed).I'm a fullstacker now, for sure!Believe the hype, folks. This book is a gem.

Vey good book. Just read and follow the steps. Very clear, with good examples. Love it.

30 year programmer here. I love the clear concise way the authors walk through react. I've dug through hours of paid video content on react that wasn't half as clear as this book. I'm so glad I made this investment in my continuing education. It's a book I can't put down.

First, it cannot be overstated that the physical form of this book is a major problem. It looks like a bunch of blog posts, printed out in 8.5x11 printer paper, which is then bound together. It's too big to carry, and simply reading it means it needs to lay flat on a desk. The pages stick together a lot, so almost every page I find myself wetting my fingers and desperately trying to separate the pages so I don't skip one. Also, there are some formatting mistakes - there's one sentence that literally runs off the right side of the page.That said, it is very thorough. Many things are covered, although I would argue the structure isn't great. It reads like six people wrote it, which is the case. One of the early chapters mentions Redux and says that it will be covered in the next chapter. In fact, Redux isn't covered until the next section of the book, many chapters in the future.Additionally, code is presented bit by bit, at a pace that I find way too slow. It really needed a full listing of source code somewhere in the text. Instead, you're obviously meant to open the code in an editor and have the book handy. That's fine, but just sitting and reading the book means that you often never see the entire code for a concept, and some of the code evolves throughout the chapter.The accuracy seems good, and certainly the people who wrote this know what they are talking about. However, the problems with the book really bring it down to merely average, in my opinion.

I started with the guides on the official react website, but they seemed to be incomplete or missing context. Working through the projects in the first two sections immediately clarified lingering questions and made so much more sense.

The book is a very good source to study React with Redux. It is well-structured, easy to understand and full of interesting coding exercises.I've put 4 stars and not 5 because, the book has 3 chapters dedicated to GraphQL (general overview, client/server, Relay) which is, from my point of view, is not so widely used. Instead, I'd like authors to dedicate only 1 chapter to GraphQL and 2 chapters for redux-saga or redux-thunk, recompose and some another libraries from the React eco-system.

Ugh. I really want to say I like it. I really don't. Reasons listed below:1. Book is HUGE. Looks like an over sized college textbook2. Way too heavy to carry around, relates to reason above.3. The way it's written is not my style at all. It is purely project based, and I mean ONLY project based. I enjoy small example programs 1 by 1.

Excellent book. Especially REACT ecosystems are well explained. Downside is that 800+ pages book is too heavy to carry around. I would appreciate if this book is split to 2 volume books.
