This is a wonderful set for 9 Men’s Morris or cowboy checkers if you prefer that instead. Definitely would recommend especially for travel. The marbles are kept inside the box through a wooden hinged piece that makes storage easy. You can’t use all types of marbles in storage but if you had smaller marbles you could totally change them out for your favorite colors. The wood has a nice finish and yea it’s *real wood* and very well made. This is my second set and highly recommend it for those who love a good argument.

Nine Men's Morris, AKA the Mill Game, is a fun traditional strategy game, played in three phases, and it is very easy to learn.This one is visually attractive, and has internal storage for the marbles that are used as playing pieces. As a child, I had a wooden Mill Game with metal pegs for the playing pieces, and that is what I was hoping to buy, because I was concerned about the marbles falling on the floor and rolling away. I could not find one that used pegs, however, and this appeared to be the nicest of the reasonably priced boards.It arrived today, and it is as fun as I remember from childhood, but the marbles are more of a pain than I expected. The players either need to keep the unplayed marbles in their hands when they're not on the board, or need to have a little dish nearby for holding them. The the marbles are not standard-sized either, so when one gets lost it will be hard to replace with one that fits in the internal storage compartment.It is attractive enough to keep on top of your coffee table, but you will not want to display it with the marbles on top, or you will likely knock them on the floor.The board itself appears quite durable. I'm giving it a low durability score because of the likelihood of losing the marbles.

The product arrived within 5 days instead of the projected 3 weeks (!!) which was the first plus. When it arrived, I was shocked by how nice quality it was. It was small, lightweight, and well constructed. The marbles in the set also feel great, not like some cheap plastic

A visit to Old Sturbridge Village, MA not only introduced a bunch of us to life in America in the 1830s, but also to Nine Men's Morris which was being played by those enacting roles in the village. It was not always played there as a wooden board game. Often, the lines and patterns were drawn in the dirt with a tree branch. Marbles were not necessary either. Sets of rocks of two different colors were enough. It was one of the many games to which they introduced visitors. The players took time to explain and teach the game to us. Buying this and bringing it out to play when we gather at our hose with families and friends, has given us the ability to teach the historicity of the game and to have shared the simple fun our national ancestors might have had playing it. It seems to be enjoyed equally by the young and the old.
