Doesn't work as intended
The media could not be loaded. Don't know if defective unit or just doesn't work, but will be returning. When wired up to a 3xAAA battery pack and 4 ohm 0.5W speaker, the unit will not play sound at all with a brief button press. Holding the button for about 0.25 seconds results in some sound, but it is faint and of poor quality. If you hold the button and wait for that quiet and poor quality sound to play and then release the button and immediately press the button again, you get the behavior that was expected in the first place - a louder and higher quality sound. You can keep this up as long as you keep pressing the button, but as soon as you stop pressing the button for a couple of seconds the device reverts back to the initial behavior - will not play any sound with a brief button press and requires multiple sequential presses to get it playing the sound correctly. The attached video demonstrates the behavior. The first two button presses are short presses that do not generate any sound. The second two button presses are held for about a half second and result in a quiet sound being played. The rest of the button presses are a press-and-hold followed by multiple brief presses in sequence. The expected sound is played after the initial press-and-hold button press. This recording is in the default 'Pulse Interruptible' mode without the use of the 'read.cfg' file. I also tried making a 'read.cfg' file which contained only a 0 and got the same results. I tried some of the other modes as well and the result was similar - no playback on brief button press, weak playback on button hold and loud playback on rapid sequential button presses.Power supply, button connection and speaker were all multimeter tested and confirmed. Batteries fully charged. I also tried with an 8 ohm 2W speaker with the same results. It is too bad because I have been trying to find a sound chip with an interruptible trigger without much luck. If this would work on the first button press then it would be perfect for what I need.UPDATE:The seller responded after I returned the unit. They report that short audio clips (less than one second) will not play correctly and they believe that to be the cause for the triggering issues. They suggest adding an additional 0.3 second blank sound delay at the beginning of the audio file and believe that this would solve the triggering problem. This additional delay, in addition to the intrinsic short delay that all such devices have to some degree, would make this unit not suitable for any application that requires a near-instantaneous response. I cannot test myself whether or not this solution works as I have already returned the unit. Regardless, it would not have worked for my application as I needed a short clip to play with as short a delay as possible. I also question why there was any difference in behavior for the unit between a short button press and a press-and-hold button press with the default triggering mode. The response to these two maneuvers should have been the same, but clearly were not.Giving the seller some benefit of the doubt, updated my review to 2 stars.

Voltage
Worked great!I needed it without the screw connectors and had to unsold-er them because of the small box I installed it.Testing it after that and all worked fine including the sound. Then I installed it into the end-box with connectors on the box but that's when I accidentally grabbed the 12 volt transformer instead of the 5 volt one to check if it works in the finished box and it actually just smoked slightly and never made a peep again! :)Ordered another one and this time all worked fine, including the connector into a USB port as power supply.
