Q: Will a usb extension cable work on this 3m cable. I have heard conflicting answers. Has anyone tried it and knows 100%?

I've used a 2m usb extension with no problems, my only problem was when the unit was plugged into the usb port section of an extension lead the led light would not come on. Qucik email to their help desk and was advised to use the USB mains lead which was in the pack, works great now. Just lost a socket on the extension lead.

Q: can i run this off a 12v car battery?

Although not specifically designed to be powered by a car battery there is no reason why this would not work. You would however need to purchase a separate regulated 12v power supply or alternatively you could use an inverter. 12v car batteries can output anything up to around 14.4v so don't connect it directly to the camera without using an appropriate regulated power supply. Also note that as this is not a configuration that is supported by the manufacturer you may invalidate your warranty.
