reporting was becoming more and more tedious. The verbosity of the standarized reports was increasing ...
I encountered a situation at work where the level of daily, routine, reporting was becoming more and more tedious. The verbosity of the standarized reports was increasing every day resulting in a steady rise in typo's and incorrect formatting use. I finally had it and decided I would try to automate the reporting process.Using this reference I was able to construct my first VBA macros and from there design and implement now daily used VBA applications that automate our processes. Using what I learned from Excel VBA I was able to dive into PowerPoint VBA which, while different, shares many similarities with Excel VBA. Our level of effort for daily reporting has dropped from three hours to less than an hour using these programs and it all started with this reference book. Some Notes:1) Yes, you should read each chapter at least skimming the material. I am a certified Microsoft 2013 Expert and I still found new details that I wasn't aware of during my initial read. The book covers the Excel program's features - not just the VBA aspect. Again making this a great reference for anyone looking to take advantage of all that Excel can offer.2) I have had minimal experience as a programmer. I had eight months of C++ programming training last used 13 years ago when I was a Senior in High School. I also tried out some Java programming for a few months but never went anywhere with it. The point: Anyone can learn this as long as you put in the time to understand the material. It helps to have a program in mind and then try to build it. My first editions of my now daily used programs were terrible. They crashed all the time, had unexpected results, but I learned to handle all of these a little bit at a time.3) Get the hard copy. You can take a hard copy with you anywhere and make notes on the pages if need be. Or place bookmarks easily. I have a reference manual on Kindle for KML Programming and I really didn't like it at all.

This book achieves what it sets out to do: teach you to program in Excel using VBA!
This book is fantastic! As he notes in the introduction, it is not for people that are complete beginners to Excel. However, if you are well-versed in how Excel uses formulas and references cells, and want to get into programming macros using VBA, this is the book for you. Examples were ample in number and well-explained, and he has a knack for explaining concepts simply and clearly. I was able to build my own program (my goal of buying and reading the book) after just a few weeks of learning in my spare time.

Learned a lot.
Bought this book hoping that it would show me how to do everything in vba I could possibly want to do. It's not quite THAT thorough (although it's impressively thick), but every chapter had at least a handful of things even a very experienced Excel user and novice VBA user had never seen before. It was definitely worth getting and studying and will prove useful for future reference.

Excellent book, well worth the price
Excellent book by one of the best in this field... I first heard of JW over 12 years ago when I took a course in VBA macros... he covers a lot of ground both with Excel and VBA and teaches in a straightforward, easy to understand style. I haven't even read halfway thru the book but already learning tips and tricks and I've been working with Excel, VBA and VB6.0 for 15 years...

Good Excel VBA reference book with issues
I used John Walkenbach's VBA book for Windows 95 Excel during my first foray into Excel coding more than a decade ago, and I picked up this version based on my fondness for that original version. I find this version still somewhat useful as a occasional reference, and it is likely the best option of its kind--Walkenbach's tome is vastly superior to, for example, the comparatively sparse MrExcel Library product. However, this version feel disappointingly cheap, from the poor-quality paper and at times questionable printing (some of the half-tone text in figures are practically illegible), to the lack of a CD noted by other reviewers. Probably the most surprising evidence of this is that my copy has approximately 50 pages incorrectly shifted, so that page 166 transitions into... page 215. I don't remember ever experiencing this particular issue before, much less a book with an MSRP of $50. Because I use this book mostly as a reference for answering specific issues this is a minor issue for me, but is emblematic of the flimsiness of the whole enterprise. Still recommended for all Excel expertise levels, but with reservations.

Well Rounded Reference Book
Great book, easy to read, organized well. You can either read it through and progress through the examples or if you are already familiar with VBA you can just go to the appropriate section and work on the skills you need support with. a bonus is also available in that the book give you a URL to obtain code that the author has written to enhance your projects and improve your skills.

Great for VBA Newcomers
Excel 2013 Power Programming with VBAI got this for a VBA coding class a couple years ago and let me tell you that both this and the Excel 2013 Bible, link below, saved my grade that semester. It really helped me understand how to use VBA for various applications and went through step by step on how to code. I am not a coder and by the end of the semester I was writing hundreds of lines of code for not only the class but for my own personal use. Would absolutely recommend for any novice in excel VBA.Excel BibleExcel 2013 BibleI am part of the Amazon Associates Program

Excellent professional-caliber book
With this book, someone who does not know Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) programming can learn to create Excel tools of the highest professional quality. I did not know VBA when I started using this book. Since starting to use this book a couple of years ago, I have developed and implemented in production for the state government agency where I work several Excel tools that are used by upper management on a daily basis. I would not have been able to develop those tools without the use of this book. The knowledge I gained from this book enabled me to get a promotion and increase my salary. I still use the book every week.
