Works great for string lights. Thought it was causing a GFCI tripping problem - guess not
Below is my 3 star rating which I'm changing to 4 stars now that I've done some more investigating. I thought rain was getting into the TPLink plug and causing the GFCI to trip - but I found out it was where the lights plugged into an extension cord. I removed the TPLink plug from the outlet and plugged the extension cord directly into the GFCI outlet and it tripped. Hmm. Guess the TPLink wasn't the problem. It turns out there was water in the extension cord plug from a heavy rain. That must have been the issue with my first TPLink plug also. So, if your GFCI plug keeps tripping and you're using an extension cord, check the female end of the extension cord and see if there is some water in it. I'm going to wait for it to dry completely and then use electrical tape to keep water out of the connection. For some reason there is still some current going through the string lights even when the lights are off which is why the 4 star rating rather than 5.Original review when I thought the TPLink plug was causing the GFCI to trip:This is my second purchase of this 2 plug unit. I use it to remotely control some string lights. It was easy to setup and has good wifi range. It responds almost immediately using Alexa. I have a schedule so the lights turn on at dusk and turn off at 10:00 PM. That's the good - now the bad. I turned off the lights using Alexa and replaced a broken bulb - and got shocked while doing so. Power was obviously still flowing even thought it was supposed to be off. I also noticed that the lights wouldn't turn off all the way - they would glow faintly. The GFCI would trip frequently as would the breaker in the fuse box. I figured I had a bad plug and bought another. It has been working fine for the most part, but the GFCI breaker would intermittently trip with it also. I replaced the GFCI outlet. No help. It had been working fine for the last few weeks until we had a lot of rain the last two days. It has now begun tripping the GFCI outlet again and the breaker in the fuse box. It says it's waterproof but obviously isn't. I'm going to get rid of it and try a different brand. Too bad because I really like it when it works.

Great for damp areas
Purchased this for regulating low voltage lighting. Easy connectivity that stays consistent. Each plug runs independently. It is a smart plug.

You can't go wrong with the Kasa KP400!
I'm glad I trusted the ratings on this one! I really, really like this smart plug!!!I'm not easily impressed, nor do I usually take the time to write one of these amazon reviews. So the fact that I am writing one now says something, in and of itself.Let me provide some specifics: this Kasa KP400 smart plug was easier to install than any others I have, including the actual Amazon ones. It has yet to disconnect itself from the network or fail to work correctly (again, better than Amazon's own offerings). The timers and sun up/down programs have worked perfectly and it has not failed to follow a single, Alexa-given, command (once more, even better than the actual Amazon plugs)! I like that I can program it through its own (user-friendly) app or through the Alexa app. It has integrated perfectly into my lighting system (hello, Amazon. You taking notes?). I also like that it protrudes outward a bit, so as to not block the other, unused socket. I love that it is outdoor rated, handles a good load (without even remotely heating up), and has that green color that blends in. Additionally, I haven't had to return it (after a short time) for issuing a weird error message that Amazon customer service translates to "its dead and must be replaced". (Are you listening Amazon? You could learn a few things for your plugs from Kasa!)I not only recommend the Kasa KP400, without reservation, but will likely purchase another one myself (and maybe one for my aging parents). As for the few bad ratings, look: it's always possible for one defective unit to get missed by the factory's quality control, or to have an issue with your wifi network. However, if you give Kasa/Amazon a chance to replace it, and if you've set up your coverage right (a lot of folks blame tech for their mistakes), I don't think you can go wrong with the KP400. If you think I'm being overly generous and just don't believe me, try it yourself! The worst that can happen is you end up returning it and lose a day or so waiting on an alternative. But I am betting you be as please with it as I am am.So I say: good on ya Kasa! I will be trying some of your other offerings. Especially since the longevity, and functionality, of the Amazon smart plugs seems short-lived.
