Very useful programmable calculator
It is a very good programming calculator, used in Japan, Korea and Asian countries, but not well known in India or even in Western countries. Released in 2006 Sep, in Japan, with no changes made till date. Build quality is good, and key presses are average. The cover is also good, but a bit thin.It is mostly useful for tedious and repetitive programmed calculations, and if you know how to program it. Please read the manual thoroughly!

Not bad, but not great either
My Casio fx-9860Gii stopped working, so I wanted a decent replacement. My general requirements were: easy battery change and durability, with all standard math, trigonometry and stats functions. Because I faced issues with my fx-9860Gii buttons, I didn't choose it again, plus I recently started using GeoGebra software on computer for graphs. So I settled for fx-5800p with the additional programmability. I am comparing with the fx-991EX (which costs 1/4th of this), which is a non-programmable calculator.Pros:1) The standard Casio build quality, so no complaints there.2) I can store my own formulas and code, so that's a big plus for repetitive custom calculations. However, the built-in memory is small - 28236 bytes.3) fx-5800p 40 predefined constants.4) Both have Pi as predefined constants.5) Speed Test with 69!/69!*69!/69!*69!/69!: both calculators are mostly same, can't make out a difference.6) Both have matrix functions.7) Buttons are well laid out on both calculators.8) fx-5800p uses 1 standard AAA battery, and there's no need to open the back panel fully, there is a separate door just for the battery. The fx-991EX run on the small LR44 which isn't expensive at all, just a tad bit difficult to get (only at watch shops). But I have noticed that the calculator runs on light power even at night in bulbs and tubelights (there's a small indicator on the screen that shows the power source), so thats awesome!9) fx-5800p has lot more variables (26, A-Z), whereas fx-991EX has 9.Cons:1) Its a bit pricey, for the feature set it has.2) The dot-matrix display of fx-991EX is higher resolution, and hence shows much better fonts and mathematical display than thos one.3) fx-991EX has a QR Code feature that lets you copy results on phone (if you find it useful), fx-5800p being a much older model does not have this.4) fx-991EX is a much better looking calculator with textured front, however I don't like the white body. fx-5800p looks old-world, but I like its black body and hinged cover. The cover however does not look too strong.Verdict:If you don't need programmability, fx-991EX is much better value, and looks classy too. If you need programmability, but don't want to spend a fortune on graphing calculators which usually have this feature (plus graphing features also), there is no calculator other than fx-5800p in the market.
