Inexpensive and reliable tilt switch
If you need a tilt switch that does use mercury in its design. consider this sensor. It is inexpensive, reliable, and arrives quickly, consider this switch

Does what it claims. I'm using them as test pieces for float switches on a sump pump controller. They just need to close and open circuits, nothing fancy.
