Here is EXACTLY how it works! Read the update.

I bought the iTrack key finder for my two teenaged sons who are forever loosing their keys, sometimes for a day or two. Hopefully this simple gadget will help stop the madness. Each had it linked to their iPhone 6s and working in no time, but I'm pretty sure they did have to download an app first. Now they can either push a button on the iTrack and find the phone, or use the phone to find the iTrack which is on his key ring. Either device will make an audible series of tones when called upon by the other. Other reviewers have said the range is not great, but usually a person does at least have a clue where they last had their keys and can therefore use the iTrack to find them effectively enough. Heck, my kids can hopelessly lose their keys in a single room without ever having gone anywhere else. LOL! (I am not certain, but there might also be a way to somehow 'track' the iTrack with an iPhone. I will try soon to get a straight answer about this and update the review.) I also liked the fact that this particular device has a replaceable battery. Some had permanent batteries and are therefore disposable.UPDATE - It is 4 days later and we now know that with the proper app installed on an iPhone you can first track the iTrack by GPS and find out where it is - IE your buddy's house, Grandma's, church, the hardware store, corner of 5th and Main, Etc.. Then you can go there and start the finding process by watching your phone and using a "hot or cold" type method. It sends 4 different proximity messages to tell you if you are "very far", "far", "close", or "very close". Once you know you are "very close" you can set off the tone and listen for it to go straight for the keys under the middle couch cushion, by the steps in the grass or whatever. (Or possibly even in a particular thief's pocket I suppose, LOL!). The iTrack can only send an audible signal to the iPhone however, but this is much better than nothing. Usually things are lost in an obvious enough place. We like it. I also like that you can replace the batteries and keep it going for years and years if you choose. Some others are said to last only a year or so before the permanent battery fails and you must buy another entire device (and probably learn how to use it again). A disposable one might even last a lot less than a year in the possession of serial key/phone losers like my two kids. There is now no excuse for lost keys, but people trying to use it to find 'roaming' lost pets might be disappointed. I would expect it to do okay on 'sitting' lost pets though.Sorry, I can't tell you if it works the same on any other phone. We only have iPhone 6s's in the house.I wish I had had one of these a couple of years back when a certain someone borrowed my keys to unlock something and then laid them on his bumper and drove away. I'm still paying for that bone-headed mistake.

After years with Tile ...

Just recently I retired my Tile Sport as the annual battery reminder also reminded me of its biggest issue ... a non-replaceable battery. To be fair though, the Tile Sport is more stylish and robust along with water resistant; none of which necessarily applies to the Rinex. However, mentioned battery issue, and occasional connection issues made me reconsider. The Rinex is a decent design with rounded thin edges. I would have picked the orange one, only the white was available. Fine with me, I guess. See the picture for a size comparison to the (larger and slightly thicker) Tile Sport. The housing has both speaker openings and a separable housing which keep it from being water resistant. Sounds worse that it should be in most cases. I have it attached to my car keys and the key fob is unlikely to be fond of water exposure either. If you’re planning on going kayaking etc. stick with the Tile. ;-)The pairing (iOS12) worked fine after downloading the dedicated app. The pairing is within the app and doesn’t require an official Bluetooth pairing in the settings. That also allows for the device to be picked up by other devices running the app and ultimately a crowd locating of your lost device. (The Tile spooked me a few times in airports when notifying me of my device being found somewhere else (despite residing in my bag).A clever tool is the remote trigger function for your phone’s camera. You have to run the app and start the camera from within the app to do so. I guess there may be a few cases where this comes in handy ... typically not in my use after the initial play time. Finally, the biggest argument is the replaceable battery (type 2032). The device is new and I cannot comment on that just yet, but it’s a winner if the battery lasts close to a year and can be replaced without buying a whole new tracker.

Both bluetooth and GPS tracking, with a replaceable battery.

They work but arrive with one dead battery and one replacement battery that actually works. On one of the two units I purachased both of the batteries were dead. The spare battery was corroded and left a rust circle on the plastic case. I purchased a replacement battery, cleaned it up and it works, but that was way too much trouble for something that should have worked right out of the box. These do work using GPS and Bluetooth, a flexibility that is nice because relying on Bluetooth alone and people passing by your belongings to pass you the location doesn't instill a lot of confidence. GPS is global. Bluetooth is short range and if you are traveling the world, the likelihood that someone with the same tracker will be in the international vicinity of yours at close range is highly unlikely. Far better to have GPS as a backup assurance. The batteries can be changed unlike many other throwaways. That's a plus, even though my need to do it immediately was not appreciated.

My advice is to replace the battery RIGHT AWAY with a better brand

I just bought this for my Dad who suffers from Dementia and has a difficult time remembering where he's put things like his keys or wallet. I gave it to him the same day it arrived to keep in his wallet and the very next day, it's gone missing. He doesn't remember where he put it and was getting frustrated with himself. That's not what bothers me though... The real frustrating part is that the battery that came with this unit was completely DEAD the day after it arrived! It shows on the app that the battery is drained and therefore won't connect to it. I can't use the GPS or anything to find it so that defeats the entire purpose of buying this in the first place! My advice is to replace the battery RIGHT AWAY with a better brand, or else you could end up in the same situation as I am in now. Out $30 and having to buy another one.Other than that, it seemed like a pretty good device. Easy to setup and the app is straight forward. Just really too bad about the battery...

So much false advertising

False advertisement as this is product is not GPS equipped. It is a short range Bluetooth finder. If every human on this planet had one and kept their Bluetooth on connected to it, that would sort of help you find your stuff. This still would not help if there was no one within 20 feet from it example forest. Great product for finding your keys in the house, not by the useless location app but by making the device beep. I would give 5 stars if this was $5 and reference to GPS and any ability to finding it outside your house was removed. This is basically same thing as 1980’s whistle keychain

Great little device. Sleek and functional.

I love this thing. Shame that there are non left in stock for this price. I wanted to buy a couple more. What a great deal it was and it works great not bulky and it is very light and it works as a remote for taking pics on your phone. I have an iPhone and it works great. Really like it.

Small and light. Two way functional. Find phone or keys

Love this product. I bought a few of them. I’m always misplacing my phones or keys. You can reverse find your phone with your keys. It’s the best. Or you can use your phone to find your key. It’s sleek and thin. So not bulky. A great addition to my key ring.
