Doesn't do failover nor load balance as it should

I love QNAP products, and i bought this unit to cover many needs, which it did, minus one important one.Now before I bought this unit, I asked a QNAP representative if it was able to manage 2 WAN interfaces and she told me yes, that it was doing "Load balancing" - and the unit kind of does it but in a so bad way that you will never want to use it. Here is why:I have two WAN connection:1. Fiber 3Gbps2. Cable 15MbpsMy "slow" connection is a failover because I work from home and all I want this product to do is allowing me to compute this connection in, with a lower metric, so low that it would not use it unless the primary fiber connection fails. But you cannot edit them, they use a protocol that automatically fill them in :(QNAP engineered this thinking it would be a good idea to send a packet to Interface A, then the next packet to Interface B and so on. So you see the problem coming, now I have a 3Gbps connection that has to slow down to 15Mbps to 'wait' for the slow packet to go out so it gets its next turn.So yeah, they really missed the target. It is sad because this is a nice product, probably the only one flexible enough to allow 10G and 2.5G ports to be swing around as you like (I used one 10G for my fast WAN and the others 10G for my secondary LAN switches).Maybe one day they will see their mistake and re-think this, but as for now there is no updates available. Also, firmware update don't work well, it doesn't see firmware automatically so you have to "show" them to the unit manually. Their NAS are automatically updated all the time. Finally, the unit DOES generates a lot of heat as mentioned by many, not critical for now, I installed it in a way it doesn't suffer from other sources of heat, but that is to be constantly monitored. I'm afraid the unit one day dies on my because of that. They could run a fan through it, this would fix the problem, which I will probably add manually.

Rock solid, feature rich, 10GE, 2.5GE, multi-WAN for enthusiasts and experienced types

You will see reviews about the title saying its wireless when it is decidedly not. Kind of an odd thing to post a bad review on since its not the product that's the problem. There is another model (QHora 301W) that has WIFI, but it does not support dual-wan at 10GE speed, only one port at 10GE + 2.5GE for the second. In my estimation, if you are considering this router you are taking things up a notch. The key feature, that is hard to find, is 10GE, multi-wan at a reasonable price point. You give up wireless to get it and quite frankly you should have walked down the path of separate access points a long time ago. Furthermore, you are going to want a switch of some kind if you are connecting much of anything - even if just WAPs with PoE.Earlier this year I replaced all my Ubiquity gear with QNAP 10GE and have not looked back. Some QNAP components better than others, but all of this gear delivers on the speed, has a reasonable management experience, plenty of more advanced and flexible features (e.g., port flexibility, firewall, routing, trunking, QoS) that map to capabilities you expect if you have ever worked in a data center. Its not so advanced that you can do anything, but its <$500 so there is that. I have rebooted it once in the last several months while troubleshooting, but of all the items cooking this is the least of my worries. If you have the need for a dual-wan 10GE router and get that this is just one part of your setup, then you will be happy. Very pleased with this purchase. Would buy again and recommend it to enthusiasts and tech professionals - for many it will slide right in with minimal fuss and for others it will be a good learning experience. If this sounds like too big a lift, I recommend you just buy some other one-sized-fits-all space ship - there are a few to choose from that will deliver what you want.

10G and 2.5G Router without Wireless Capability

This router is an amazing router compared to any other traditional router which only comes with fixed speed port and unconfigurable. This router solved that, comes with 3x 10G and 6x 2.5G ports which can be configured every ports as individual WANs or LANs. In addition to that the router offer user friendly WEB interface to configure easily.

very bad

I have this for 6months now. I should have refunded this when i had issue during my 30day window, but i was too hopeful on fixing this, with the help of QNAP support. they took their sweet time, and didn't fix the issue AT ALL. I've been talking to them for the whole 6months trying to see if we can fix it. I replace my whole networking infrastructure just to proof them a point that its their product that is defective, but now they are just saying "its a software issue, just update the firmware". which also didn't do anything. at this point, i just want my refund, i wasted too much time and money on this. this is the last time I buy anything from qnap. What are my issues;1. sometime don't get the full speed of the port, or only get full speed on one of uplink/downlink. it will randomly do this and very hard to make this happen on command.2. port(s) will randomly disconnect on their own, and immediately reconnect3. router will have a hard time auto negotiate of what speed it should be at, but if unable to detect, it will default to 100mbps. if force to any other speed, it will not connect to device at all.Other reason why to not buy this;1. Having more then 1 wan, is meaningless as there are no option/control of how the network should use it. ie, no loaad balancing, no fail over etc.2. no poe. at this price range, alot of router/switchs has poe function3. no LAGG (link aggregation). again, at this price range, no layer 2.4. router will or may overheat itself to death. reason, most of the heat is from the bottom of the router. with no airflow, it will overheat.

This router will cook itself.

Even though this thing has a fan that you can hear spin up when you turn the unit on, that's the only time the fan will kick in, Even under heavy load, this router will not spin up the fan, and slowly cook itself until it starts to reboot, and now you have an unreliable, completely useless networking device in your chain. And unfortunately, (1) the QuRouter software won't let you configure the fan, so no getting around that problem yourself, either and (2) once it's cooked, there's no uncooking it. Even with a fan blasting cool air through it, once it starts rebooting, it'll keep randomly rebooting.Stay away from this router.
