It works!
This book is so lovely and really does work. My daughter is 34 months and I decided it's time to slowly start the weaning process, but I want to do it gradually and thoughtfully. She loved the book straight away, especially the picture of the toddler having a breastfeed. We talked about it for a week before starting as she seemed to understand and loved reading the words with me. The first night she woke a few times and was a bit upset, but didn't take long to get to sleep (I felt a bit awful but stayed strong!). Night two we had one wake up (at 5am so the longest sleep I've had in years!) But hardly any upset, then night three she woke around 4 but no tears, she actually was reciting the words 'if you wake and it's dark out that window...'.We're a week in and there's no upset at all, but being summer, when she wakes around 5 it is actually getting light outside, so I have a little voice saying 'mama, it's light out the window'! So currently I do let her have some around 5.30 as she is following the new rules! Then she drifts back off for a while thankfully.I imagine this phase won't last long and she'll soon sleep on a bit longer. She does now nurse a little more in the day, but once she's used to everything that'll reduce again. So to sum it up, this book is great and it works. It has really handy instructions also for the parents. The pictures are beautiful also.

Lovely book to introduce the idea of nightweaning to a toddler
I'm so greatful for this book as I believe without it my 2.5 year old toddler would have continued nursing all night for much longer and the whole process wouldn't have been as gentle. The illustrations are just so beautiful and the lines don't rhyme, which is positive because I was easily able to change words and add lines so that the story was tailored to our family. My daughter identified with the child in the story and enjoyed having the book read to her not just at bedtime. With the help of this book I was able to prepare her for the painful process of night weaning and although it took about 2 months and there were quite a lot of tears along the way she's now sleeping through the night. In the story bed-sharing is promoted and continued after nightweaning which works for us but might not be suited for everyone.I think it's a bit pricey for a paperback although I understand it's a niche, still I wish there was a cardboard edition.

Lovely illustrations & story. Could be better quality paper.
Lovely illustrations and sweet story. The actual book could be printed on better quality paper and which a hard or more durable cover. When we read this we swap the words to be our words for 'nursies' etc. Useful for part of weaning process

Expensive but excellent!
I bought this book upon the request of my wife, as we are just beginning to night-wean our toddler. I was a bit shocked about the price initially, especially when it turned up and it was so thin! But I must admit it is a really good book. The artwork is excellent, the colours are printed well, and the content is great. Our toddler really loves the book, and it has definitely helped him understand the concept. I was quite impressed that the book was printed in the USA, something you don't tend to see very often! As well as the story there is a section at the back for parents which explains how to use the book, and other tips about night-weaning.I very strongly recommend this book!

Nice thin book, but overpriced
The illustrations in the book are very nice and it's nicely written. We have read it to our 20 months old for a couple of nights and think he understands. However, the book is very thin, even the cover papers. If it gets a bit humid (a bit!), the paperback pages bent up, it feels more like a magazine than a book. 12 GBP for 5.5 double pages is definitely overpriced, someone is taking advantage of the fact that this is the only book for weaning off breastfeeding at night.

Totally surprised me. It worked!
I wanted to night wean my 22 month old and read about this book on a forum so thought I'd give it a go. I was a bit sceptical when it arrived. It's designed to be read with your child but the images and writing aren't typical of your normal book aimed at 2 year olds so I didn't think my son would be interested. Initially he wasn't, but I persisted in reading it and he soon became fascinated by the drawings of the child breastfeeding, which I dont think he'd ever seen before. It's now become our pre- bedtime story book and he loves reciting the mantra about waiting until the sun shines before his next feed. But best of all, about 3 weeks after introducing this book, he started sleeping regularly through the night. This has never happened before!! Nothing else has changed so I can only put it down to the effect of the book. I wish I couldgive the author a big hug as I'm finally getting some sleep!

The quality of this book is shocking!
This is the first time ever leaving a review but this book's quality is so bad and the book expensive that I had. It is not worth the money I paid £23.98 including delivery is shocking. I am returning this book and also have to pay to get it returned - almost feels like I have been scammed.

Highly recommended!
I've seen this book recommended so many times for night weaning, and having just weaned our 26 month old I can totally recommend it too. When the book first arrived I was a little disappointed - it feels quite flimsy for the price - but the illustrations are beautiful, and the story makes for a really loving way of talking about night weaning.About a week or 2 before we started night weaning I read this book at least once a day with my toddler, talking over the concept. We made use of the 'no milk until the sun shines' idea by getting a Gro clock (which you set to show a sun when it reaches a certain time), and talked about using the clock as we read the book. Then we used the Gro clock to have the sun come on (i.e. milk now allowed) at 2am, then 2.30am a few nights later, and so on. We're now at 7am and fully night weaned.
