After a recent trip to Italy, I found myself with many, many walnuts. They sat in a bowl, staring, untouched until I realised: We were crackerless! I studied many options on offer, most of which looked liked they'd mash your nuts or you needed The Hulk to squeeze them. Then my eyes lit upon the engineering glory that is the Gearmax. Looking like a small trolley jack, I could instantly see how it could crack with minimal effort.It's simple lever mechanism and adjustable nut grip are a joy and the stress of mangled nuts is a thing of the past. My first attempt gave me two perfect walnut halves, worthy of a walnut whip but my joy was incomparable as my second attempt produced the Holy Grail of walnuts - the complete and undamaged, full walnut. At 58yrs old, finally, I cracked the perfect walnut. My beloved suggested I set in resin, that it may become a family heirloom.If you are after a new nutcracker, this is the nutcracker you are looking for!

The media could not be loaded.  Great for the ability to crack smaller nuts such as hazelnuts, also good to keep fingers away. Block is a little unstable but would easily be fitted to a larger piece of wood if need be. Good value as well!

I'm very pleased with this nutcracker, it's making short work of our hazelnuts. The lever makes the pressure you apply easy to control, and the adjustable holder means it will handle many different sizes of nut. It doesn't mash the nut or your fingers, like the plier sort do; and it doesn't send bits of shell into every corner of the room, like a hammer does. If you have a nut tree, it's a good choice!The screw thread adjuster was a bit stiff initially, but a drop of oil soon sorted that out.

The fact that an adjustment can be made for the length of the nut is really useful to get the right amount of leverage. Pecans are usually normally really difficult to crack and remove the nut meat without breaking it into tiny pieces, but with this nutcracker, less pressure needs to be used to crack the shell. Can't wait to try it on other types of nuts.

The quality isn't great but it cracks nuts. The cracker is mounted to a pine back board, in my case not square to the extent that I can't stand looking at it so it's going back.The threaded adjuster works but is so slack it feels like the male and female threads are different pitches. To stop the nut shells flying upto a metre away from the sides of the cracker you need to cover the nut while it's being cracked and if you use a hand to do this be careful not to trap it under the lever (ouch!).

I use it for pecan nuts. they are dificult to crack and other types of nutcrackers did not work. this one is sturdy, easy to use and most of the nuts come off perfectly.

An over the top nut cracker but that's precisely what I wanted, a grandiose nut cracker.
