So much easier to use than the gel ice bags.
had knee replacement surgery and was going to do a lot of icing of my leg. have several of the gel ice bags you freeze and use but was advised to get this setup instead. it saves so much time and effort it's well worth getting. you fill the container (it looks like an insulated liquid holder) with water, there's a line indicating the fill point, then fill the rest with ice cubes, wrap the knee part around the section of leg you want to ice, attach a tube to the container and the other end snaps into the knee wrap part, pull up a tab on top of container, and the wrap fills with cool water. watch the videos. no wrestling with small icing bags and trying to keep them in place, this item keeps water cool for hours and very easy to use. Can just dump out old water the next day and refill with water and ice cubes.

Coolest cooler
I purchased this igloo cooler for $157 per my sister-in-law who had total knee replacement before me. She told me that it was the best thing ever. I have been running around with cool gels to put on my knee while I laid around. I decided to give it a try and I have found that she is absolutely right! This is the coolest igloo cooler ever! You fill ice and water according to the instructions once the hose is attached, put the top on it , attach the cuff to it. The coolest part is getting the water into the cup, and out of the Coffe! To get the water into the cup you hold the cooler up no more than 15 inches high and the cold water rushes down and feels the cuff that is already attached to your leg! after about an hour or so once it cools based on your body temperature, you will open the little spout on the top of the cooler top and hold the cuff no more than 15 inches above the cooler, as I did it, I had the cooler on the floor sitting beside me to put the water back in the cooler, I put the cooler back on my table when I was filling the cup. If I needed to get up for a hot second to go to the kitchen or whatever I just left the cup on my leg. At night I put the cup in the refrigerator to keep it cool. I was able to travel two hours up the highway and I put the cuff on my leg. I forgot to mention that the cup is detached from the igloo cooler when using it. Once I reach my destination, I was able to take the cover off, put the water back into the igloo cooler so it could get cold again. When I was ready to head home I put the ice cold water from the cooler back into my car again by letting the little Spicket up . I wrapped the cuff around my leg for my car and drive, and I was all set! This is the best thing, so I did not have to stay at home and miss anything.

I wish I'd bought this sooner
The only reason I didn't rate this 4 stars for 'value for money' was because it seems like I could have cobbled this together for $30 in parts purchased at my local hardware store - but it was absolutely worth the money. I tore my ACL and had to wait 2 months before having surgery, during which time my doctor told me to ice my knee a dozen times a day, minimum - which is impossible unless you have at least 6 of those re-freezable ice packs and someone to ferry them back and forth from the freezer. My husband could fill the Aircast Cryo Cuff with ice water in the morning and I'd be good to use it all day - plus you get not only the cold, but compression. Someone told me about this just before my surgery and although I balked at the price, I decided it was worth investing in my recovery, assuming it worked. It was worth every penny and my only regret is not knowing about it sooner so I could have used it right after my injury.

Great way to ice post surgery
I’m about 3 weeks post RTKR. Starting using this right away. After a few days we realized freezing 2-16 oz water bottles and submerging them in the canister with water is better than filling with ice and dumping throughout the day. We change the ice bottles morning and evening. Can be a bit heavy to tote around when full. Overall though, super easy and I can have it by my side all day without having to refreeze ice packs. Don’t overfill the knee wrap, gets heavy and bulky on your surgical knee. Only ices the front of your knee so I do use a rectangular ice pack behind my knee and strap them all in place. Ice behind the knee is essential! Good luck and happy recovery!

Excellent for post knee surgery, trauma, pain, sprains, etc.
Excellent for knee pain, trauma, post surgery, etc. I used this several years ago recovering from torn ligaments. Ordered this to use post total knee replacement. Before this arrived, we were constantly changing out ice packs and had gone through nearly two bags of ice in less than 1 week. Measure your thigh at about 4-6" above your knee cap. The large fit perfectly. My thigh measured 24" and this was after a lot of swelling was reduced. You could use this without wrapping around the area. The wrap allows for cooling of most of the knee area. Yes, the back is not cooled. We use flat ice packs for this. The compression from the ice water filled packs have also helped with the pain and the swelling. Yes, you will have to 'recycle' the cold water. However, it is easy to do and less work for your caretaker to constantly refill ice packs. I remove this for physical therapy and walking as it does 'weigh, on your leg and restricts movement. At night, you will most likely refill this several times. Again, it is easier to do this than have a family member changing ice packs. I like that the cuff is adjustable. If I want more compression, I will wear the wrap a bit more snug. If I am resting, then I keep it loose. NOTE: before filling the wrap with water, loosely fit around the knee area. Once the after fills the wrap, this will compress the area significantly. You will be able to readjust once filled to a more comfortable level. I did not have any 'leaks' as one other reviewer noted. Yes, when disconnecting the unit there is some water that does leak from the connection. That is to be expected. Once you have purchased the cooler and hose, you will be able to use this for other wraps offered by Aircast (ankle, etc.) if you need. FYI, I was not compensated for this review. This is all based on my experiences with the system.
