The Hacker Playbook: Practical Guide To Penetration Testing

A great book and on the job reference. I have the paper and kindle versions of this book and referred to it recently on a job. I encourage you to read it through quickly then read it again when actually trying to do something. It is a great reference. The authors section on adding additional tools to Kali was worth the purchase price. Also google the author and check out his Blog. Lots of useful stuff there.

If you are a novice like me don't buy this book. it's way too advanced for guys like us and the writer point that out throughout the book that this is for people who already have some knowledge in the field. I have left it aside to come back to it when I learnt enough from other books are written for beginners. Not fair to leave poor rating for my lack of knowledge is to be blamed.

Great book full of techniques and information. My only issue is that some of the tools are outdated and it references an older version of Kali. Playbook 2 and 3 are out so will definitely be checking them out.

Good book as an insight into how someone else runs a pen-test with some interesting ideas and some real-world gotchas and pointers. Very little theory though and not much detail on many of the techniques so if that's what you're after this isn't really the book for you (in fairness, the clue to that should be in the title).My biggest gripe really is that the edition I had (bought around July 2014) is absolutely *riddled* with typos, from simple misspellings to missing words, very odd phrasing and so on. There are lengthy stretches with one or more on literally every page. It's possible the author's first language isn't English in which case it's a great effort but could've done with a native English speaking friend or editor to give it the once over.All in all well worth a look for the "plays" themselves though and very reasonably priced as these sorts of books go.

The author talks you through downloading the best cracking dictionaries and password cracking tools. It contains information that you can't find anywhere else easily, and it's always practical and pragmatic. The authors focus is on getting the job done... There is no padding or waffle. A must have book.

I've just received this book today and whilst the book covers the topic adequately the grammatical and typo errors are disappointing particularly given that such a profession should rely on precisness.It's not the only book on the subject in my library (and won't become my 'go to' book) but it's ok and reinforces your knowledge of the area.
