Good long term investment, pity about price of replacement lids
Perfect for bottling, pity the price of the replacement lids is so high.

Well Packed
Ordered these Kilner jars for my wife for Christmas as she has just started preserving. The quality seems good they have good weight to them and the lids and screw tops fit perfectly. (No issues with crossed threads). Think they are a good size for pickling/preserving. well my wife says they are.Had no issues when she boiled the jars and sealed lids, I have read that some other makes the jars break. But I can say that these are very good.

Not for dry goods! Otherwise great jars, lids no good for canning though
edit - Coming to buy more of these for preserving, I note the description reads "Perfect for storing tea, coffee, herbs and spices". DO NOT BE FOOLED. These are not the jars you want for dry goods! You want the ones with the clip-top and the orange rubber seal, which are perfect for that. These ones have fussy lids that are only useful for preserving.Otherwise, read on:These are great jars. I use them for freezing milk with screw-on plastic lids (just wait till the milk is properly frozen to screw on the lids and it's fine). Just a shame they're let down by the lids - and not for the reason people think. These are canning jars, which is why they have the two-piece lids. They're *supposed* to rust. The inner disc is only meant to be used once and then replaced, and the band is supposed to be removed, cleaned, dried and put away as soon as the jars have cooled. If you don't do this, or if you try to use a two-piece lid like an ordinary jar lid, then yes, you will have problems - and two-piece lids are unpleasant at best to try to use as screw-on screw-off lids. There's also a big issue with Kilner's lids, which is that they've designed them so that the band shears the inner lid off when you remove it. This means that if you can food in them, you have to leave the band on. This disguises bad seals (the band holds the lid on, when it would otherwise pop off), and food spoilage (gas produced in the jar would again pop the lid off). These are bad things!I recommend replacing the Kilner lids and bands with e.g. Ball lids and bands. TBH if Ball jars weren't in such short supply I would just have bought those instead. I really don't recommend trying to use two-piece lids for storage, please don't. You can buy one-piece plastic lids for next to nothing.
