Lock & Lock HPL838 Rectangular Storage Container - Clear/Blue, 9 L

When I bought this 2 years ago it was described as a bread bin, but I see that it no longer is. I have bought several bread bins over the years of all different makes and materials and this definitely remains the best one I’ve ever had. My husband and I don’t eat a lot of bread and I was always throwing some out, but not now. Although I buy shop bread, I always buy the freshly made loaves and they stay fresh for at least a week as do rolls. As with all similar containers of different brands I find that they are better washed by hand and then the lids are not difficult to fit as mentioned by some reviewers.

I have bought Lock & Lock products before so I knew the quality was assured. I wanted the 9L to use as a breadbin and it is ideal. There is room for a large loaf, 800g, plus a pack of 6 bagels or crumpets. Like all Lock & lock storage boxes it is robust and easy to clean. I highly recommend this product.

I really like this container. It's sturdy, it's airtight and big enough for pretty much anything. A word of warning; if you have bad arthritis or a problem with your hands in general this product is probably not for you. The clips are very stiff when you first start using them, and can also be difficult when just out of the dishwasher, but they ease off considerably after daily use. So keep persevering, the lid will clip into place eventually and actually becomes easy to seal after a while. It's an excellent product, so handy to have in your kitchen and cuts down on waste, just pop any food you want to keep fresh into the container and keep fresh it will.

If I still had the insert and packaging I would have returned this item, but I had faith in the brand so stupidly discarded them when I washed the box. The box is a good size and I have used this brand before with no issues, however on this item the locking clips are very stiff, and it is incredibly difficult to align the lid and close the clips, and then hard to get them open again. As I wanted to use this as a bread box this would be annoying to do several times a day, and near impossible for the kids, and so I have relegated it to flour storage and am having to purchase a different box for bread. It may be I was unlucky and received a dodgy one, but I would advise keeping all the packaging until you have washed and tested the clips to be sure it is okay for you.Edit 20/01/17 - we decided to keep trying with this box as a bread box to see if it improved with daily use, and the clips have just now started to ease up after a month of use. Although still slightly hard to close it is much easier to open. Hopefully this will continue without affecting the air-tightness if the box. I've upgraded my rating to 4 stars, as the box is a really good size for two loaves of home-baked bread (from a Panasonic breadmaker to give an idea of the size) and the bread has been keeping fresher.

Nice items useful and good price

Lock and Lock products are easy to use, and attractive to use, and great quality. They are usually air proof, waterproof etc. Great for dried goods to keep fresh, or use in the fridge, plus anywhere else in the house to keep things together, or safe. Could use for tablets kept away from children on a top shelf, craft room and loads more. Plus can see what's inside without opening. Great.

Excellent box with good seal

After I caught one of my cats with his fangs embedded in the kibble bag I realised it was something else I had to prevent ( they're worse than toddlers! ) so I bought a lidded box. Didn't think it through, and bought a lift-lid one.Yeah, right! Came downstairs one morning to find the box on the floor and kibbles all over everywhere.Ok, plan B.Bought one of these boxes, and it's cat-proof! Even my Maine Coon hasn't managed to open it!This box will hold a 3kg bag of regular cat kibble with room for the scoop, but is not quite large enough for the entire 4kg sack of Coonie kibble. And being airtight also means that the biccies stay fresh and crunchy to the last scoop. 😸
