Works like it should
Works well.Pros:Price, for as well as it works, great price.Lightweight, so ideal for transporting.Built in cord, dual USB C and AFastQuietIf it is important to you, a nice looking piece of kitCarry bag is a nice touch.Cons:Feels a bit cheap, being all plastic. As with any electronic device dropping would be bad, but this feels like it could break a bit easily. But if permently on desk really not an issue.Lightweight, pushing disc carriage in can cause the drive to slide, a better set of feet would help (I added two rubber, non-slip ones, makes a big difference to me at least).Kinda short cord, and being attached could be an issue if damaged. With the disappearance of DVS's and CD's and rise of Streaming and online delivery, this drive should be perfect do 98% of folks needing access to discs, and at a terrific price.

Plug and play on my laptop. Worked great right out the box and did what I needed it to do at a good price.

External DVD Drive USB 3.0 Type C Drive Portable CD ROM Optical Drive
For me, this was a great value. It worked, simply, as it should.Seeing that many laptops, PC's no longer come with optical drives of any kind, figured, have this on hand. I love CD's, DVD's, BlueRay for many reasons. I don't actually use my current drives on the "PC" all that mush. However, if you need or want one, - then, you need it; there's no other way.I did not have the smaller 3.0 port to try that "y", but, nice to have.I think the wire could be longer by 3x's. It's functional, but if feel you may need to, e.g., have the laptop here and the drive "out of the way", near by, you'll need an extension.I felt for the price, - great value. The box it was in was a sturdy and impressive as I've seen and I am "fussy" about not getting stuff, tossed in a thin bag and if survives, luck me. That, the OEM packageing, impressed me. It came with a carry cloth bag (part of the box padding). And, the plastic body, frame, drawer, all of it was of a "heavier" more robust casting of plastic. I've seen, had a few very thin and fragile types. This, while one would want to take care won't have to "worry" since so light weight, - this is "good" quality from what I've seen so far.So, as far as USB, - it should just work if plugged in. Then, you have your software of operating system to engage the disc. That's it.I hope that helps someone.

Bad product out of the box. Don't let the bargain fool you!
TERRIBLE. I got this on sale (it was $12 basically half the price). I tried it once. Didn’t work at all, I tried very hard to give it a chance. Barely gave me a chance to work (as intended) lol. Anyway, I tried to go to their website since Amazon said they can not refund it (not sure why…) they told me to go on their website, I did. All I was met with was a very confusing site. Their website is very messy and you won’t even find this product or the category where you can get help for it. I’m not mad about losing $12, just want people to know that this product did not work for me (after just opening it!) and their customer service is serving: unhelpful. Get what you pay for. I was looking for a bargain and I found it, it was an unfortunate one though. I don’t usually write reviews, this is one of the few I have written about. Disappointed with the service and the product. Was not compensated, so now I will just recycle it. Very unfortunate.

Works well for the price
I was skeptical with the price that this would work well and was honestly concerned with the possibility of spyware or something that would breech data. In spite of my concerns, I thought I'd give this a try because I really needed a way to access older family photos we have saved on cds. My software that catches spyware, viruses, etc. did not find anything when I hooked up this DVD player, so I hope they eases anyone else's worries, too.The DVD player came and seemed to be of really good quality. It even has a nice velvet bag to store it in when not in use. The instructions are clearly not written by a native English speaker and some bits are a bit vague, so I'll tell you what worked for me:1. Before connecting it to your computer, if you want to use it for DVDs, download a DVD player. My computer had a media player for photos and audio, but no DVD player app (which makes sense, since it didn't have a DVD player!) The DVD player's instructions say to "download the local famous player." That's what it's talking about :-) I downloaded the free Nero player for my old Windows computer.2. Plug the USB into your laptop. It has two different plug ins, looks like a regular USB and maybe a usb-c. Not sure when your need that other connection, but it's an option!3. At this point you may have to change the region for the DVD player. It is set on the east Asian region, so I had to change it to USA/CA.4. Open the DVD player on your laptop if you want to play a DVD, otherwise just click on the box that pops up on the right side of the screen that says something about the DVD player and click play media.5. Enjoy your dvd, audio files, or photos!I did this with my photo cds first and it worked perfectly, then figured out I needed to open the DVD player first when playing a DVD and didn't have any hiccups with that either.Works fine, made well, does the job at a really good price. I am very pleased!
