Great gift for a Ducati lover
I got the book for my friend and he was blown away. His girlfriend said it was a better gift than what she got him for his birthday.

Just photos
Overall I was quite disappointed with this book. There’s lots of great bikes but if you follow the chronology it’s missing the 999/749 bikes which to me is a very interesting change in the design story. There’s also a lot of photos which are really nice, all studio work, but it’s really lacking in detail / narrative about the design - what makes it special, why it was changed, why it was retained, the history, what makes it iconic, what makes it experimental. To me, someone got a load of bikes, took some nice photos in a studio and put a book together with some basic info. It’s a book of photos, not a book about Ducati design. Calling it a visual history is a bit optimistic, without the explanation it’s not a history, it’s just a picture book of beautiful headlights and fuel tanks.

Whilst visually interesting.. key models in the evolution of Ducati design were missing
Whilst visually interesting and stylistic as a Ducati (Dealer) coffee table book, it was frustrating to find that key models in the evolution of Ducati design were missing, for example the Ducati 750 GT, the Ducati 750 or 900 Super Sport (Bevels), models like the 748R, 996R many of the photo's have been taken and produced with a very dark background and flipped between a high level view and very detailed individual design features. Hence whilst a good book for the collector of all things Ducati, I felt there is considerable room for improvement in any later versions or editions.

Big Heavy book. Lots of nice arty photos rather than the usual brochure type of photos. This book is supposed to chart the major historical design moments through Ducatis history, which it does up to a point. What I have found totally inexcusable in a book like this is the complete lack of reference to the 851/888 series of bikes, The history follows the major 2v air cooled engines up to 1993 then jumps straight to the 916! So 4 valves and liquid cooling wasn't a major historical Design leap??? Bikes covered are:cucciolo,60,scrambler 450,darmah 900,500 pantah,750 f1,750 paso, superlight 900,monster 900,916,mh900e,desmosedici,1098,multistrada 1200,199,scrambler icon, xdiavel, multistrada 1200 enduro,1299s anniversario
