Illadelph Halflife

Vinyl skips
This is one of my favorite albums of all time. My review has nothing to do with the legendary Roots crew. I ordered Illadelph as a vinyl. The first copy skipped so often I requested an exchange. The second vinyl copy has skips and scratches just like the first. Could be poor shipping and handling or a bad pressing, but two times isn’t a coincidence!

Roots never cease to amaze.
I went on a Roots shopping spreee recently and pretty much bought every album that I didn't already have. Illadelph Halflife was one of them and I simply don't know how I went so long without hearing this album... I honestly just bought all the albums for the sake of being able to own them all and help out the legendary crew. I honestly expected it to be a simple album with stuff I've heard somewhere before. What I did not expect was to stumble upon several complete goldmines such as "Section" and "Episodes". Those songs are early 90's hip-hop at its finest, simply perfect and on par if not better then the Nas classics of that time. It has been the same case with all the earlier albums I have bought. I will recognize and know several of the songs already but there will be a few songs I somehow was oblivious to and didn't discover until buying the album, I'm finding a new Roots favorite weekly. That's what's great about The Roots, they've been making music for over 20 years and always seem to bring it and never cease to amaze me.Simply outstanding.

I love your style
I've seen these gentlemen in concert and they are phenomenal on and off the stage. I am a complete Roots fan. I love their ecclectic style and the joy of being pleasantly surprised after listening to any of their cd's. I love music in all it's forms and The Roots allow me to enjoy different styles of music without changing the CD. In this generation of mass produced music, it's good to see REAL musicians. I hope the group continues on its path of being innovative and not fall into the money trap that so many groups have succumbed.

My favorite hip hop album of all time
My favorite hip hop album of all time. The vinyl release is a bit noisy compared to the original pressing but you can't take anything away from the music. It is flawless and important.

Well worth a listen
Very nice album/CD! Bought as a 2nd insight into this talented band, I was not disappointed at all. This album gives a good all-round idea of their music, and the sort of stuff they write. If you haven't heard The Roots, this is an ideal CD to start with. I find the mix of jazz rhythms, and hip-hop/rap and R&B inspirational and fresh. It's great! To be honest most of the tracks on this album are fab. Well worth a listen, and would highly recommend.

Real hiphop
For all roots fans this is the pinnacle of their coming of age. Albums just got better and better after this one. But should you be new to the roots. It would be wise to start your journey here then buy the do you want more album and continue from there.

I don't generally do reviews but having just bought this ...
I don't generally do reviews but having just bought this album, after shazamming the melodic "what they do" off the radio, I was only 3 tracks in when I realised I had stumbled upon a real gem. How this has passed me by I don't know. Most albums grow on me but this instantly stuck out as a true hip hop classic.

One of the best progressive rap albums produced
Inspirational jazz based rap album with as always the Roots brand of powerful lyrics. If you are enough of an adult to want an alternative to lyrics about how many chains your have, people you've killed, or women you've violated, buy this album.
