A fantastic addition to my gig bag...
I'm a novice guitar player, and have been teaching myself to play seriously for a few months now. For the longest time one of my biggest problems (so big I honestly didn't realize how bad it was until it was gone) was how to hold my pick. It was always so hard to get just the right amount of pressure without either ruining the sound of the strings or the pick just flipping out of my hand. I tried Pykmax on a whim after reading an article on Guitar World magazine's Facebook page, and I was immediately impressed. The design is simple, but that's where its genius lies. Even with hands as small as mine the Pykmax rests comfortably in the palm. Because the plectrum is secure I never have to worry about loosing my grip on it, and the tip is always just the right distance from the edge of my thumb and forefinger. Before I got the Pykmax I had stuck to larger, thicker gauged picks- Dunlop .88s and the like- because anything smaller and thinner would either go flying on my first strum, or slip between my fingers. This is no longer a problem with the Pykmax, as I can now comfortably play with a .60mm plectrum which has made the process so much easier.I call the Pykmax a solid buy for players of all levels of expertise. I would especially recommend it for those who have medical problems that affect their ability to hold a stand pick (for example, carpel tunnel syndrome, or injuries to the hand or wrist). I've already ordered one for my father who is also self-teaching. He can't wait to try it.EDIT: After talking with a representative from the company, I have been informed of the release date and price of replacement plectrums. Suffice it to say, it's very affordable. As such, I have changed my original 4 star review to a 5.

Works, pretty much. Are you a pick-shuffler when you play?
Four stars. Sorry it just does not fit in my hand right, and the reason is because I use my middle finger and thumb most of the time to hold the pick, sometimes moving to thumb and index/middle finger combined, and I move the pick a lot, sometimes just holding it in my palm so I can use my fingertips. All that is possinle with this pykmax, but it's designed to be held with index/thumb, which nestles the thing in your hand; if you use middle/thumb, not so good. Doesn't fit anymore in your hand. Feels odd that way, and essentially doesn't work if you are a pick-in-hand move-around-alot type like me. I'd love to see one that is custom-made like ski boots; warm it up, put it in your hand and let it mold to your hand the way you play. Unfortunately that still wouldn't perfect, but it might still be awesome. When this pyk works, it works well; the biggest features being that it would be very unlikely that you would ever drop it, and you can hold it very loosely. I like the idea.

awkward to use until you get used to it
I find this device a bit cumbersome because I switch from flat pick to finger picking and play multiple instruments. This thing is difficult to hold on to when switching guitars or adjusting microphones. I can palm a regular pick while I play harmonica, but this contraption has to be set down somewhere. The other awkward thing about it is the forced position and pick angle. It is at a right angle to the thumb at the first knuckle joint. I do not usually hold the pick that way. I usually pinch it more towards the tip of my thumb and index finger so it extends slightly forward. Other reviewers seem to like it a lot so I guess they hold the pick differently than I do. Maybe if the body of the device were longer it would be more comfortable for me.Now that I've had it for a while I am amending my review. Since I have a touch of arthritis which flares up from time to time, this contraption does help me not drop my pick, so I do find myself using it. It is something that you have to get used to.

What a Superb Product
I've been playing guitar for many years and I up until now, the only pick I ever used was the standard rounded-corner-triangular plastic pick we all know so well. Being the type of person who's always willing to try innovations and step away from the norm a bit, I decided to give the Pykmax a spin. Wow! Am I glad I did! I read a review in which someone stated that getting used to it was a breeze, and I found that to be exactly the case. But getting used to something easily means nothing if the new device has no significant utile value. Let me tell you; the Pykmax is an incredible instrument that creates a singular mechanism of the strumming/picking hand and the pick itself. And it does an amazing job of stabilizing the pick so the attack angle remains constant. The result? With a more uniform and stable hand/pick mechanism, I was astounded how mistakes decreased while confidence increased. If you haven’t tried this pick, you really should give it a whirl.

An Okay Product with No Real Market
The product itself is just okay. After having played guitar for a while I decided to give this a try just to see what the fuss was about. I can't say that there's really a need for this item. Holding a guitar pick is fairly an easy affair. You can erase most uncertainty of how to hold/use one by watching many great guitar teachers such as Justinguitar on YouTube. The item is packaged well and performs okay enough but I can't truly recommend something that has no true use. Spend your money elsewhere and just google "how to hold a guitar pick."

Not sure about this
I thought this looked interesting, and I'm always finding myself holding the guitar pick in a weird way, so I thought I'd give the Pykmax a try. What it does well is to put the plectrum surface at a good, proper distance from your thumb and knuckle. However, I think it's not so great if you tend to do other kinds of pick dynamics, or right hand techniques like harmonics or muting, because it occupies your hand more than a standard pick does. Although this makes picking quite accurate, strumming seems more awkward. It's cheap enough to grab for your arsenal, but I don't know how much I'll be using it.

Four Stars
Bought this for my mom. She says she likes it, but you know how moms are, they'll say anything.
