Before diving into how the PT02 worked, I should point out that my job is to test and write about computer hardware. Part of that testing includes checking noise levels. In the past, I have used a few different entry level meters and they have all been of extremely poor quality and very inconsistent on their results. So when shopping for a new meter I was hoping to find a IEC651 (later renamed IEC 60651) type 2 rated meter. While this is the bottom rating, most cheap meters don't even have any sort of rating at all and type 2's let alone type 1 or type 0 meters are extremely expensive and out of my budget. I found the PT02 and at the time there were no reviews but given the Type 2 rating I decided to give it a try. Before even using it I was extremely impressed with the overall construction. All of the other cheap meters are made with thin plastics and look and feel cheap. The PT02 has some weight to it and it feels very solid. Plus is has a rubber finish on it for grip and protection. The backlit display looks good and the buttons are easy to understand and use. Now I have no way to confirm the IEC651 rating, but I can say that the PT02 has performed much better than my past meters with consistent results.I was so happy with the purchase that I have been looking at other Protmex products as well.It should be noted that there are a few meters with a similar design under different names, this isn't really any different than the cheap meters I original got. But the product is worlds better than all of those other meters. I don't think I could get a better meter without spending 3 or 4 times as much. I was happy enough to spend the time writing this when I NEVER go out of my way to write up a review outside of my work.

excellent for my specific needs
Mostly I wanted this for equalizing sound levels on videos I produce for my YouTube channel (Rich Ries Adventure). I use this in post production and it works very well; the MAX hold feature is especially useful. Is it accurate? It seems so but I don't know and I don't care. My primary concern is that it remains accurate within its own parameters and that certainly seems to be the case. I'll soon also be using it to optimize placement of sound baffles around my video production work station. I can't afford a recording booth yet and baffles should help me manage ambient noise from outdoors. One complaint: the 1/4 x 20 mount is useful for putting the meter on a tripod but I wish the hole were on the back rather than the side. Maybe I'm just using it wrong.

Solid, Well Built dB Sound Meter.
This unit feels well constructed and solid and has the features I was looking for. The measurements are easy to read and I especially like the analog type linear display along with the digital display. The unit comes with good basic written instructions explaining the different functions. (that's rare in today's world) This also has both A and C weighted dB measurements. It's use is simple. After installing the four AAA batteries (not included) turn on the unit and it will start reading. If you see an "Over" or "Under" you simply push the up or down buttons until you are in the correct range to obtain the accurate readings. It has a Max Hold button to see easily what the peak sound level is. It has a fast or slow button to show instant or average dB readings. It also has a Sone button where you can determine the perceived loudness of a sound such as a bathroom fan. When you purchase a fan like this the sound level is usually indicated as a Sone level.Overall a very good unit that feels in your hand like a professional unit costing many times as much. It has no output for logging, though, and is simply a hand held unit. Worth the money and glad I chose this one even though I took a chance, because there were no reviews when I purchased it.

VLIKE LCD Digital Audio Meter
We found the VLIKE LCD Decibel Meter, performs as advertised. (isn't that wonderful!) The VLIKE Meter is very easy to use, as the large Digit feature allows us to take a quick glimpse of the screen while driving. We attempted to wear, top of the line hearing aids while driving, but they would turn off and then on again, to reduce the noise level. "Very annoying". The off/on feature of the hearing aids was an extreme distraction, so I quit wearing the hearing aids. The VLIKE LCD Decibel Meter allows us to measure the noise level in the cabs of our trucks and cars. Findings to follow.
