Is a Blue Whale the Biggest Thing There Is? (Wells of Knowledge Science Series)

This is a great book!
I love how creative the author is with his words and how it expands a child’s imagination. It’s a lovely read. It’s one of those books that kids ask to read it to them more than once.

Great.
Great for kids to compare the size of the largest things in the universe including an elephant, a blue whale, mount Everest, the Earth, the Sun, Supergiant star, Milky Way, and the universe. It is done in a n a fun way that kids can understand. When applicable gave interesting scientific facts but not overly overwhelming. Glad I got it in a hardback for longevity. My only complaint is that I wish they started with an elephant next to a human then went to the blue whale. I also think they should have done our solar system before doing the entire Milky Way. Also might have been fun to have included Jupiter before doing the Sun then the solar system... just to show how big gas giants really are.ONE FACTUAL CORRECTION - It states there are nine planets in the solar system, but there is only 8 once Pluto was demoted to a dwarf planet. This is easy to clear up with kids... and you can even have a mock debate on whether Pluto should or should not be a planet...

Wonderful and enlightening science book for young children, 5+ years
I got this book for my 4 year old and discovered that he is a little young for it. We get halfway through the book and I find that the concepts begin to go way over his head. When the book discusses size, they use a comparison by using objects by numbers. For example if you stack 100 Mt Everests on top of each other, they would look like a little hair from space. The numbers get big (like in the millions) and my 4 year old began to get lost (especially when they began discussing the size of stars and our galaxy). I loved this book. I learned stuff. It is fast paced and has great/clear illustrations.

Fascinating book!
This is such a great book that really amazes and puts the size of things into perspective. Even my gifted pre-K class enjoyed it!

Cute children's story, great for a classroom, a great buy for teachers and a decent price. A well-written story with good art to boot.

Wonderful Book
I love this book - the illustrations do a wonderful job showing the relative sizes of things. It begins with the mighty Blue Whale (surely the largest thing in existence), and shows how this small this majestic creature is against the backdrop of planets, stars and the universe. It's hard not to read - even as an adult - without stirring the imagination. Great for kids... definitely a keeper.

Plenty of room for discussion about God. Fun book.
Great book. The concepts are suitable from age 6, perhaps but more will be gained by older children (7 0r 8, 9max) following up the ideas and doing more research. The book is quite simple but fun and helps the child imagine more how we all fit in. 30 pages of simple, lively cartoon like illustrations with a page or two of ideas for children to do.Although it doesn't mention God, it really begs the question of how everything happened or keeps going; plenty of room for discussion.

Brilliant book for talking about scale and also how little ...
Brilliant book for talking about scale and also how little we are in the Universe. It always takes my five-year-old and I off on tangential random discussions which is more proof of this book's incredible ability to make you think and consider.
