Close the key door then push switch down to open key door again to confirm it took the new code. Tumble the digits to ensure your code numbers are now showing before you close the protective cover.

I have a Toyota Highlander key with dimensions 2 3/16 L x 1 1/2 W and 9/16 in thickness and it DOES NOT FIT within the inner chamber. The length and width fit easily. The thick side DOES NOT. The internal depth of the lock chamber is 1 1/4, but the lock mechanism takes up much of the space, about 1 5/8 in of the approximately 3 5/8 in total internal length. The depth of the lock mechanism is 1 1/8 in at its thickest and that is the problem. The lock mechanism does not allow for a key of this thickness to fit, the lid sits 1/8 in from closing.
