I'd had my previous Kindle for years and was happy with it but it was becoming obsolete. I looked at the new Kindles and thought they were way too expensive so stuck with my original. But it finally died and I was going away travelling for a month and could not lug 4 paperbacks with me so I bit the bullet. I opted for a recycled one as a) slightly cheaper and b) better for our benighted planet.After looking at the options I decided a Paperwhite was the best choice for me. The basic version is already expensive (especially if you add a plug - seriously, you expect me to pay for a plug???? - and a cover- also, £££) but for a little extra you get adjustable lighting and a degree of waterproofing (I love the guidance that advises you not to read in the shower :) ).I am really happy with the result. Cannot tell in any way that it is refurbished - looks brand new to me. It is very light and pleasant to hold - slips into my small handbag easily- and the reading 'experience' is very nice. I like the amber light - especially if you are sharing a room. I had read that all your previous books transfer over when you upgrade but we share a family Prime account so that didn't totally happen but, no worries, I generally read classic literature so it is neither expensive nor difficult to replace. And I won't forget about Keith Richards snorting his father's ashes so no need to replace his autobiography either.It's been super-easy to download books. The in-built dictionary is great for tackling 19th literature too.It took a bit of practice to get used to the controls but they're pretty logical tbh. I opted for the advert version but that's literally just the home screen - and mostly suggestions that match your purchases, so potentially useful. I choose the denim cover and am pleased with it - easier to find inside a bag with a black lining. It seems to be good quality so far and automatically switches the device on when you open it and vice versa.All in all, if you love reading and can't be without a book, I think this is a good investment.

But then you'd expect that, wouldn't you? It looks good and seems quite hardwearing - 3 months in and it still looks as good as new. I don't treat it badly, but it's been knocked and bunped a few times and carried around in a suitcase. Not sure they're really worth the cost, but I do like my kindle and want to keep it safe, so what better way than to use the 'made for the job' cover.

The media could not be loaded. Nice sturdy plastic case housing the kindle paperwhite snuggly. Soft inner lining to protect the screen. Easy to hold as the case folds back on itself and magnetically stays in place to the rear.Reason for loss of star is that after just over a month of use the bottom of the case is starting to show damage from where the lining is coming away. This could be due to reading every day for a couple of hours at a time so over longer period I will need to replace the case which means not as good value for money as would have expected to last longer.
