OK quality at high speed

The quality of the output is just ok. The colors are definitely not quite right, but the speed and ease of use is what got it 4 stars. You can reproduce a lot of slides in a fairly short period of time with it. The quality is fine for obtaining copies of slides that you just want to have to look at. If you want an honest to goodness high quality copy then you'd better go with something else. I can get a much better copy of slides with my Cannon flat bed scanner, but it is a much slooooower process. I think I will use the DBTech for most of the slides and use the flat bed scanner for "special" shots that I want to print and frame. I have not tried the DBTech with negatives.

These are a must have.

You need to order these to have extra, as they do scratch up and will effect the picture you are trying to transfer. They work great! I was also able to remove one side of the film holder, to allow one side of a stereo slide (for a viewfinder) to be transferred. It held it in place well enough to transfer to a digital picture that came out awesome. These are a must have if you plan on doing any slide transfers in high quantity.

Good as new.

These are very sensitive to scratching. Only after a few hundred photos there are very noticeable scratches appearing in the photos.I found that wiping them with a lint free cloth and a tiny-tiny amount of baby oil will make the scratches disappear for a while. Dont use too much oil or it will cause artifacts in the photo. ie rainbows and haze.I wish they would make them out of a harder plastic or perhaps treated glass.

Extras

Have not needed them yet, but great to have on hand. the unit comes with both a strip and an individual holder which work great. Best to have these though. Incase you scratch something, they are worth having available.

Horrible! Useless! Do not buy!

This entire setup (holders and scanner) is junk. Scratches negatives and the holders become scratched after sliding just one or two negative strips into them. Useless!

Scratches

You have to buy extra holders because they scratch so easily. DBTech needs to include a large number of the holders along with the scanner instead of making us purchase more.

Need to copy all those old negatives?

Got this as I have tons of old slides and negatives which I wish to preserve and share. This was the one that seemed most reasonable after reading Amazon reviews of alternatives. It came promptly and after a little effort figuring out how to remove the plastic label on the negative holder, I was able to use it fairly easily. Got cotton gloves at the local art supply store, which helps keep dust off. Some older negatives are too thick or bent a bit to easily fit, but I find work arounds by turning them around or trimming them. It says to have the dull side facing you, but when I do that, I later find any words reversed and unreadable --- guess I will need to work on that. Have not started using slides yet, just working on old negatives. You need to get a SDHC card to save and transfer to your computers. Check what you have copied periodically to see if any dust or lines have got on a photo. So basically satisfied. Will take some time getting it all done!
