A+ Guide to Hardware (with 2 terms (12 months) Printed Access Card) 6th Edition

The book has many pictures for novices and I felt it was a decent companion for most new students who are interested in IT and hardware. I like the pictures and the bolded words which makes it easier for the busy adult or student who wants to just study for the A+ exam.Things have changed so much in the last decade going from EIDE drives to just plugging in a SATA wire. I almost am jealous with the stuff the new kids have to experiment with which I was not able to do with as a youngster growing up in the eighties and nineties. Advent of cellphones and the raspberry pi makes it easier for children to get into the world of computing and codingIt is the changing of the guard I just have to get use to it. Recently getting back to college and wanted to update my skillset. Since I have been working on computers as a hobby for the last few years this class was a breeze, but for the incoming freshman I can understand the frustration if they never took a computer class this book does ease the transition.You have to have a fascination with history and computers to do well. I guess that is why I loved the class so much most might not but the book prepares the novices and the older generation alike.

This book is an excellent utility to incorporate if studying for the Comptia A+ certification tests. This book deals with the essential hardware basics as well as detailed information on what is on the test. This book is meant to accompany Jean Andrews A+ Guide to Software which, incorporates the needed software knowledge for the Comptia A+ testing. The book is designed so that important notes and things to remember are labeled at the onset. There are many hands on projects throughout the book as well as questions to stimulate the reader and test their knowledge.Recommended for ANYONE serious about pursuing a career in information technology and interested in taking the Comptia A+ certification test.

I have read in only 200 pages so far but really really like this book.The very numerous color photos of hardware (motherboards, CPU coolers, connectors, etc.) is a very nice feature. The information is also in depth (not as detailed as Scott Mueller's Upgrading and Repairing PCs, but more than most other hardware books I have read). That info is also clearly explained and targeted to what you need for the A+ 'hardware' exam (Scott Mueller's book adds all kinds of info not relevant to the exam: I'd consider his to be a follow up text, especially good for reference, after passing the exam).So far I have also not found a single typo.

As the title says. Received order on time and it came in great condition however the card is still missing and that's the main reason I docked off a star.[Edit] As J. Alexander pointed out, I made a review only about the seller and not the product itself. So I am correcting my previous 1 star review to 4 stars.The reason why I removed a star was not because of the access card but because of the material. I thought this was a wonderful and informative book, but among its typos, I felt that some information it presented were not entirely accurate in all situations. If I could, I would rate it 4 1/2. A simple summary:Pros:- Great A+ Exam tips- Beautiful pictures to illustrate various computer hardware- Easy to read and highly informative- Shows great tables that has near up to date information- Great Hands-On Projects and Applying Concepts sectionsCons:- As stated above, some information aren't for certain situations.- It also lacks certain informationFor example, when removing components from a computer, you really don't want to remove the motherboard first if your power supply and harddrives are in the way, yet the book states you do so. Another example is that it doesn't explain that you are supposed to clean the top of the processor with either acetone or 90%+ isopropyl alcohol and apply a very minimal amount of thermal compound (the amount of a uncooked grain of rice) since it creates air pockets that is very harmful to the computer.So, this book is good if you want to take the A+ Exam, and/or as a beginner book to computer hardware. Very good textbook.As I stated in the first review, I didn't receive the access card from Amazon which is probably about a third of the cost.

I bought his book as it was a requirement for a class I was taking. It is good in detail as well as has plenty of pictures. IF you want to learn about how to work on computers and are not interested in taking a class, this book is f or you.

I had an earlier edition of this book. I thought the technology would have changed from 2009, but it hasn't really. The book has good visual explanations and videos.

Book as described. Has a lot of photos which makes understanding easier.

This book is great to learn about Computer's Hardware. It prepares you well for the A+ Certifications, it tells you what kind of question will appear on the test.
