If you brew your own beer, this is a great way to heat a fermeter!
I brew my own beer, and was looking for a way to heat up my fermenter during the winter months. I saw a couple other people had reviewed this cable positively for that purpose, so I bit the bullet and purchased one. I have a Ranco temperature controller, and plugged this cable into the heating outlet. I used magnetic clips to hang the cable strategically in the chest freezer I am using (also plugged into the Ranco), and was amazed at how effective this little cable worked to heat up my fermenter to the desired temperature! It heated up my chest freezer to 68 degrees in a couple hours. I now have a beer in the fermenter sitting comfortably at the exact temp I set the Ranco for, and I am so pleased with this cable! I would highly recommend it for temperature control for brewing. Two tips: You need to use some sort of temperature controller. I purchased a Ranco that was wired with two outlets, one for cooling and one for heating. The Ranco uses this cable and the freezer, giving power to whichever one is needed, to keep the chamber at the temperature you set it for. The second tip is that you should use magnetic clips to hang this cable strategically. The cable isn't supposed to cross itself, as that could cause a hot spot that could damage the cable or whatever the cable is touching. I used four clips to keep the cable from overlapping on itself. Because I used magnetic clips, it is very easy to position the cable where I want it. I used all metal magnetic clips, so I have no fear of the clips being damaged.I think this cable would work perfectly up to a 7 cubic foot chest freezer, but if you had a bigger one I would recommend getting the next sized cable up (I think it is 25 feet at 50 watts).

Kind of works?
I used this heated wire to provide some warmth lower in my iguanas' tall habitat. It would get 5 stars if it worked completely. About half of the cord heats up and half doesn't heat up at all. It still gets 3 stars because after testing the temperature, it is safe for the iguanas to touch and they seem to like sitting near it. I don't think I would buy it again unless quality improved though.

Maintains my Fermentation Temps!
Now that temperatures have dipped and my fermentations chambers are in my garage this item has held temperatures at the setpoint without a hitch.I make 10g batches in a single 60L Speidel fermenter that VERY snuggly fits into a 5cuft chest freezer. Over the summer I moved them from my basement into my garage and switched from a RANCO temp controller to a STC-1000, which I flashed with the STC-1000+ firmware. Temps have dipped into freezing recently and these heat cables (I have two temp chambers) have worked perfectly to keep my fermentation temps right where I want them. I was worried when I opened the package because the cables are so thin, but so far they do the job without any section of the cable getting too hot.I'll report back around January if these things can't keep up when the temps get really cold, but as for now they are working great.

Toasty Snakes!
I cannot believe how fast this item arrived. I am a budding ball python breeder and have been trying to find the best way to warm the snakes. I got this today and ran upstairs, taped it down (remember not to let the cable cross or be less than a few inches apart) and plugged it in. All the little guys were toasty in their boxes a short time later and I only have one cable to plug into an outlet! I put my hand on the cord and held it and I don't think it is not hot enough to melt plastic, but better safe than sorry. I elevated each box just over the top of the cable so it would not over heat. Next purchase will be for my adult pythons. They are currently on expensive heating pads!

Heats well but length is misleading
This heat cable heats up nicely but the 14 3/4 feet label is misleading. There's a mark about 6 feet from the plug where the cable starts to heat up so the overall length is 14 feet but the portion that heats up is only about 8 feet. This is enough for what I need it for but it would be going back if I needed all 14 feet.

Not as hot as warnings make it sounds
Ordered the heat cable for reptile related application, so far so good. The cable is nice and flexible, and clearly marked where the heated portion begins. It heated up fairly quickly, which was nice. I thought it was odd how many warnings there were in the instructions when the cable never got even close to being too hot to touch. My thermometer showed ~100-110F, though it may get hotter if you coil it tightly. I suspect the warnings are more for insurance type reasons.

Need for heat!
I ordered this for my B. dubia roach colony and electrical taped it to the side of a large plastic sterilite container ( for the record it doesn't get near hot enough to melt plastic). But it worked really well, the first 6 feet from the plug is cool cable which is a good idea. It heats the enclosure well and keeps at a constant 80-85 degrees but isn't hot to the touch nor will it kill/harm my animals if they decide to sit on it. Great product, just wish it got a little warmer.

works on paper
this seemed like a really good idea if you have a tall tank and need some extra heat in the middle , but my gtp wanted none of it . he scooted so far away from it , i've never seen do anything like that . even after i unplugged it . maybe i'll try again in the winter .

Faulty
Didn’t heat up at allHad a few so I am aware the first part of the cable doesn’t produce heat but the whole length didn’t work very disappointed

Decent
I bury these in the soil of my bioactive jungle tanks to heat it as they are waterproof. Use with a thermostat as they can get really really hot. I used to wrap these around the vines in my chameleon encolsure too but they were never really on.

Good for diy reptile egg incubator
I have it plugged in a thermostat. It keeps the temp at 26 in my incubator. You cant go wrong with zoo med.

Handy for other uses too
I'm using this in a non-standard way, heating a Davis Vantage Pro2 rain gauge during the winter months. It's attached to the underside with foil insulation and foil tape away from any direct water. It gets plenty hot so no need to have it running full time, I have mine on a timer that switches it on for 10 minute cycles. One full winter and no apparent issues.
