Update: While it's a beautiful clock, I'm returning it--only because the light sensor isn't sensitive enough for my home. I did buy it its own lamp to clip on the shelf and point at the clock face, but that detracts from the whole presentation. (Placing a small table lamp directly beside it didn't even work.)Because it will probably work fine for most folks, I'll give four stars. I'd give five if there were a simple on/off switch, easily accessible on the side of the clock, that would override the light sensor. I hope to find a clock just like it with such a switch, but so far it looks like those are much more expensive.For a plastic clock, it's eye-catching and the swirling pendulum is beautiful. The problem is--I had to place it on the stove under the bright hood light to get it to go off each hour. Daylight in my apartment isn't enough; you'd need to place it in or facing a window and I don't have windowsills per se. Also, I'm a night owl and would like to hear it when it's dark outside. I ordered a clip-on lamp to place nearby and turn on or off when I want chimes, but I wonder how funky that's going to look pointed at my fancy clock on a shelf. If it looks too utilitarian (I’m passionate about concealing hardware and electrical cords), I may have to return the clock--will have to see after I try giving it its own lamp. For now, without the intended music, I can only give it two stars.

I owned a clock of the same make and very similar in appearance for about 25 years. It was so pretty that I was sad when it finally gave up the ghost. I got on line and found this one. I like it more than the original and the little music piece it plays each hour is such that we turn the sound down on all things that might interfere when it plays. Each hour it plays one of 36 pieces and, it has some musical pieces for the Christmas season. I look forward to them.

After over 45 years of marriage it can be hard to select a meaningful gift. Since one of our grandchildren currently loves clocks this made a special gift for my husband. Turns out we love it too! We all enjoy the various tunes played on each hour and it looks elegant in our front entryway. Even though the case is made of plastic it still looks quite elegant.

The first clock I ordered didn't work. I put in brand new batteries and something smelled like it was burning. The music tone was horrible. It was evident that this clock was defective. I returned for a replacement and the replacement they sent wasn't even the right clock. They sent a clock that played 6 songs and of a much cheaper quality. So disappointed. I am sending back AGAIN and hopefully I will get a working clock AND the one I ordered.
