Lifesaver!

I absolutely hated the cast shoe you get at the doctor's office. It slid all over the place, and just didn't fit correctly. I couldn't walk in it.This one, though, is worth the $20 (give or take). It allowed me to walk with confidence, rather than fear of falling from the cheap, unstable build of the free ones.If you are in a cast like I currently am, and don't want to use crutches or a knee scooter, get one of these!

When you gotta walk, you gotta walk

Good looking boot style cast shoe to go over your leg cast so you can walk on it. Disclaimer first: Always follow your doctor's orders considering weight-bearing on your injured leg or foot. Walking on it too soon can lead to poor healing and a longer recovery. Ok, that's out of the way! This is a substantial cast shoe, kind of like a stylish black high top Converse. It is a little more difficult to put on than the flimsy shoes most doctors offices provide but it doesn't slip and slide around, it protects the toes and makes walking safer and easier. I have problems that put me in leg casts fairly often and this is the best cast shoe I have had. I liked having the built in walking heel in a previous cast but I like this shoe as much. I recommend it!

Excellent product. Makes getting around much easier

Excellent product. Makes getting around much easier. The bottom of the boot is very well made and should hold up well for the 4-6 weeks I'll be in my cast. The boot keeps the cast from touching the ground and therefore cleaner, and the large flat bottom adds stability. Sizing is always an issue for something like this. I wear a men's 10.5 shoe and therefore ordered a size large in the cast boot. It's about 12 inches long. In hindsight, I perhaps should have ordered an extra large because my toes do extend over the edge of the boot about 1/4 inch. On the other hand, the large is probably less clumsy than the extra large would have been. For those few miserable weeks that you have to be in a foot/ankle cast, the Darco Int'l Slimline Adult Cast Boot sure helps.

Here are the pro's and con's

I recently broke my 2 toes next to my big toe and fractured the upper part of my foot, but I am a mother and a pet owner and a worker, so life could not just simply stop for me. So I looked for a boot that would allow me to take care of my kids, pets, job and house with the easiest boot. I wear a ladies size 9-91/2 and it was recommended that I get the large, but I find the large is a bit too big and heavy, so it does not hold my toes in place the way it should. It makes me feel a little more protected from further injury because the outside shell is pretty sturdy, and walking is a bit more comfortable, but I would have preferred and better fit and a lighter weight to the shoe. Hope that helps.

Worked

While in a "non-weight bearing" cast, I was instructed to use crutches and a knee scooter. Neither worked for me. I am 61 years old and the crutches created issues with my right hand, where I have little to no cartilage in my right thumb. Therefore, I could not effectively put pressure on the crutch handle to ambulate. Additionally, I kept teetering and falling. The knee scooter didn't work either for some of the same reasons. And since sitting 18 hours a day does not work for me, I found this boot. It cushions the "non-weight bearing" cast and allows me to move about. Don't get me wrong, I still try and stay off my foot as much as possible, but the doctors live in an unrealistic world! Needless to say, I really do like this boot. It is easy to put on and take off. I might also recommend a cast cover for taking showers.

Don’t buy! Can’t return! Really big!

This thing is huge! I wear a 10.5 in women’s so followed the chart and got a large. It is way too big. At first I thought I’ll try to deal with it but I can’t! Because the toe part sticks out so far I was hitting it on everything causing me more pain! What even worse is you can’t return so I have a useless boot now!

Does the job well

I broke my ankle and was put in a cast in the middle of winter. I wasn't able to put any weight on it, but the boot helped keep my foot clean while out and about in the snow and slush of winter, and was also nice to have when I had to use public bathrooms.I wear a size 9 (men's) shoe and ordered a large boot, and with my first cast, my toes were right to the edge of the boot. I had a new cast put on a couple weeks later and apparently it has less material in the back as with my second cast I had about 1" of room from the end of my toes to the end of the boot. All of the straps had plenty of room left for further adjustment. The Velcro strap over your toes can be moved wherever necessary to provide plenty of "stick".

As Advertised

I ordered this shortly after I broke my ankle 7 weeks ago and got a cast that covered my lower leg.The cast boot was as described and was a lot cheaper than the local medical supply pharmacy. When I ordered it, I expected to wear it all the time. However, that wasn't the caseIt felt clunky and in the way. Not any fault of the product......I just didn't like wearing it.I already had a cast on my foot and this just added to the bulk. Also, I had to keep all the weight off my foot, so this cast boot only served a purpose when I was resting my foot on the floor.(It's only been worn about 3 times)Regarding sizing:I just measured the size Large that I bought from Amazon. It's 11.5 inches long.At the toe-end it measures 4.5 inches across. It tapers down to 3.5 inches about halfway down the shoe.(I wear women's size 10 shoe and this was the correct size for me)
