Super interesting
I'm not one to read history or biographical books for entertainment, but I'm glad I read this. I've always been fascinated by Dracula (as a lot of people are), which is why I picked this up. While it is a historically accurate book, it's written in a way that is not dry or boring. It's also pretty short. As much as you think you know about Dracula, you don't really know the half of it. I found it pretty incredible that someone who ruled a very minor province for a surprisingly short time has had such a strong impact on history and our imaginations. Vlad III was definitely a bloody ruler, but it was the norm for the times, too, which makes his longevity even more surprising. In all, this was a very interesting read and I'm looking forward to reading more Captivating History books.

Not as gruesome as I expected.
If you like history, you will like this volume. Yes, there were some gruesome parts, but the author was careful to point out that it was very difficult to separate fact from fable in tales lost in the mists of centuries of oral retellings.

Prince Vlad
This is an interesting book, in regard as to the historical background of "Count Vlad", who was actually a prince and not a Count. Anyhow, it gives an interesting sight into this character and into medieval europe, in particular in the balkans. The only thing that I would've liked is the following: I would have liked to know what was the relationship between Vlad the Impaler and vampirism.....however did Bram stoker relate vampirism with Vlad ? The book doen's mention if Vlad had any kind of vampiric activity or tendencies, or if he used to drink blood or if he only went out at night or something of the kind.....So, at the end, I still did not understand what Vlad the implaer had to do with vampirism.....he was cruel and mean and all that, but there have been many cruel and evil men and still there is no relationship to them and vampirism.....Other than that, the book is interesting to read.
