Review Breathtaking ReadBy D LarsenMy first overall impression of this eBook (guide) is...Wow.Mr. SwanePoel has done his homework, giving the reader the information (including website links right from the book) necessary for planning and executing a South American holiday. I would recommend this to anyone thinking of visiting Peru, or for anyone like me, who likes to dream.Easy Reading By Malcolm M. Fowle, Jr. Very easy to follow, I like way that the information was conveyed along with the pictures. I took notes and am planning a trip soon.Very informative and excellent buy By R IrvinI just returned from Machu Picchu, and this book was of great value. The book cleared up many misconceptions about the trip, and i decided to stay longer and book all activities myself. The money that I saved not using a tour operator more than paid for the additional days, and paying for the price of the book multiple times. In Peru I used the book as a guide book, following the routes as described in the book, and had a blast. The pictures in the book made it easy to get around the ruins, allowing me to visit the points I wanted to see.  Read more About the Author Adventurer and world traveler, Anton Swanepoel, hales originally from Pretoria, South Africa, but has called a number of exotic locations home. Breathtaking Read

My first overall impression of this eBook (guide) is…Wow. I just finished reading it and feel like I’ve been to the top of the world and back. I had no idea the ruins were so extensive. I never expected to get so much detail packed into a single, concise document.I’m not much of a world traveler and thinking of visiting foreign lands and remote destinations is daunting, to say the least, but after reading this book I think I could do it. The step-by-step (take me by the hand) information was very helpful, but the icing on the cake was the picture guide. What a great way to ease the fears of being in unfamiliar locations. I bought this not thinking I’d be going to Machu Picchu anytime soon, but I wanted it for the amateur photographs - I was not disappointed.Mr. SwanePoel has done his homework, giving the reader the information (including website links right from the book) necessary for planning and executing a South American holiday. I would recommend this to anyone thinking of visiting Peru, or for anyone like me, who likes to dream.

Basic info; lots of repetition; poor site guide

This book has only basic info about Machu Picchu and surrounding towns. All the info given can be easily found online, like wikitravel or wikipedia. Although there is lots of repetition in the book, the taxi info and train schedules are incomplete. The photos were standard and directions within the Machu Picchu site itself will only confuse you more. There is absolutely no history about the site itself! The author claims that it's not a history book, but all other travel books include some paragraphs here and there about certain sites, places, and culture.I recommend getting the Moon's guide to Peru & Machu Picchu. I bought this one hoping it would be more focused on Machu Picchu, but instead it just has lots of repetition and confusing directions. At least with Moon's guide, you also get info on interesting cities like Cusco and Lima for about the same price.
