I use the Musicolor curriculum almost exclusively with all new students under 6. I run a fast growing studio in Brooklyn.Simply put, it helps very young kids read & practice on their own without having to understand music notation. That alone is valuable - it means kids <6 can access the piano, play some complex material, and have a blast doing it. And do it on their OWN.That said, this is just a starting point (although, you could only use this series and be fine). The Musicolor method site has outstanding supplemental materials that complement the book.It's really a unique and ingenious approach for young students. Can't recommend enough.

What a unique and effective way to teach music to kids. The author got a number of things right here…1-Use color as a teaching device. The connections kids make in their early years with color can’t be understated. But I’ve never seen someone use color as a teaching device this well before.2-Notes for parents and teachers. You never feel left out as the person giving instructions, as Mr. Ingkavet provides clear and easy tips for leading the lesson.3-Making it simple. The format of the book is very comfortable and very easy to follow. Very elegant in its approach.If you want an easy and inexpensive way to share music with kids and help them develop an extra level of creativity from pre-school age on, check this book out. It’s a definite keeper.Highly recommended.
