You have found the perfect chicken book - GET IT!
I can’t say enough good about this book! It is rich in information, funny and intriguing to read with personal anecdotes and experiences backed up with research and facts, punny, and it reads like a school text book with vocabulary, a glossary and an index, a full list of a basic and a comprehensive first aid kit for chicken health needs, different options and pros and cons on types of coop bedding, coop plans- there is TRULY no information I can think of needing that I can’t find in this book. It’s so well researched yet Anne’s personal touch makes her feel like a good friend giving you all the best secrets. The artwork and layout is extremely pleasing and makes it even easier and more pleasant to read.I bought this because I plan to get chickens but I would not before I researched their full needs. I feel this book has beyond equipped me and provided extra resources, AND it’s something I can easily refer back to when I need a refresher or am in a specific “stage” of chicken care. It’s separated into two sections, before chickens (BC) and after delivery (AD). (See what she did there?)Overall, if you want to learn about chickens OR even if you have chickens and want to learn more- get this book! My whole family will be reading it before we get any. I really can’t recommend it enough!

How to make chicken decisions...
So what are the kinds of chickens I want to raise? This book helped immensely to make decisions on which type of chicken and how to help them flourish. As a result - I cannot raise chickens on my property as lot is too small. Oh, well, I could always move... No, not an option at this time.

User friendly
Anne Kuo clearly loves her chickens. I wanted to get some info about chicken rearing as I am thinking about getting some. She presents a wide range of information about every aspect of chicken raising, from caring for tiny chicks to explaining why adults take dust baths. She does this all in a chatty, friendly style that sort of mirrors talking to some knowledgeable friend or neighbor on the subject.Since I know nothing about chickens, this book is of special interest and use to me. I now feel that I have enough know-how to decide to take on the project or now. Nice work Anne. Her book is geared exactly for people like me who are rank beginners. The size of the project is also perfect for me. She is a backyard chicken lady, on the same scale that I would be doing.I heartily recommend this well-titled book for people who are thinking about getting their own flock of backyard chickens.Read this book before you build your coup!!!

Easy to read
Nicely detailed, even though it's written for a completely different part of the US, still helpful.
