This book gives explicit instructions on the origin and importance of having an altar for spiritual practice. It details the types of altars, how to construct and maintain an altar daily (which is something new that I learned). This is an excellent book for anyone just starting their spiritual journey or wanting to enhance their spiritual practice.

Shrine and Altar is a slim but rich text that details the function and structure of the sacred spaces that we all maintain in our lives. The most important knowledge here is the purpose, symbolism, and function of the components of an altar and shrine; all covered in this text. Purpose and function are critical in order for authentic application. This book offers knowledge, making application easy so that one can build understanding.

Good book to have as the information is valuable and concise. This is one that you will refer back to again and again.

It is a brief book, but it is full of practical knowledge you can use right away. He makes the practice of building a shrine and/or altar a simple one. HRU is a great instructor and has a way with making the complex simple. If you are looking for a great guide on building an altar or shrine, this is a must have. I would also recommend picking up Grasping the Root of Divine Power by the same author, as it will give you much more perspective.

The title and description of this book make it appear to be a general purpose book on shrines and altars, however, around the last section of the book the author reveals that this book is part of the series “How to be an Afrakan” and is attached to a specific religion and belief set: the Nigerian Orisha tradition.Aside from this fact, the book offers no insight into the construction of a shrine for general use or the author's particular religion, and only seems to offer a list of rules more or less on where to place it and a vague reminder to respect it.Personally, I am deeply offended that it was only in the last section of this book that it finally admits to being aligned with a particular belief set, which if not part of the title, should have been part of the description. Additionally, the author's tone is nothing short of pushy: not giving clear instructions, assuming the reader already understands what he is talking about, and offering no explanation as to why they should do these things. I don't know anything about the Nigerian Orisha tradition, but after finishing this book, I'm fairly convinced that neither does the author.

This book provides a foundational understanding of the construction of shrines and altars. Excellent source for those looking for a way to take ownership of their processes and build, simply.

Brief but contains practical information.

I recommend this book to those seeking knowledge in African Spirituality. It gives instruction and provides explanations of what to do and why.

Love this book.

I purchased the ebook last summer(2018) and this has really helped to take my spiritual growth to the next level. Topics as simple as the 4 elements (fire, water, air, earth) which you'd think you got down pact was spoken of and touched on in such a profound and enlightening way that I'll never look at these elements as seperate from me or unconscious substances/occurneces again. Chief Yuya really brings it all together and I've seen the improvements in my life by adhering to the advice and pointers given in this book. The instructions are simple and easy to follow. You don't have to spend loads of money to advance on your journey and he makes this clear.Also.. I'd advise to come back and review this book even once a month or every other. I guarantee that there will be key points you missed or just weren't able to receive last time you read it due to where you were on your journey at that point. I can't say enough good things about this book. I definitely recommend this for anyone who is just beginning or has already accumulated some mileage on their spiritual walk that deeply desires some solid guidance and understanding of how to establish a greater connection to the universe higher self, ancestors and angels/cosmic entities.
