Interesting look at human behavior

Understanding when and why we all behave the way we do in situations is the key to changing the behavior. According to Ariely, irrational behaviors follow a predictable pattern.Beliefs impact decision making as when we believe something that costs more is better than an identical product or service that costs less. Our expectations impact our decision making as well. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Ariely included the example of beliefs surrounding diet sodas. It seems that people who favor diet sodas tend to be overweight, while people who drink water tend to be thinner. With zero calories you would expect that it would not matter, but Ariely discovered that overweight people tend to believe that they have saved calories by choosing a diet soda and then make up for the savings but eating more high calorie food, whereas those who chose water, don’t believe the same thing. To them, it was just a better choice. If you want to make better choices I would recommend getting the full book. I was given this summary in exchange for my honest review and the opinion expressed is my own. I would recommend getting this summary as a companion to the book.

The idea of a review type book really appeals to the fast pace life I have where I can get the cream of the ideas in a condensed version with just a shot time of reading. But at least in this instance I was left feeling as if the condenser hadn't read the book properly but was relying solely of a formula. Giving it content devoid of the body of the ideas put forward by Dan Ariely in his TED talk and othe videos on YouTube. If you are interested in this topic I would go to the full book as I have, I'm only about 15 pages into it and have had loads more in that than the condensed versions full 31 pages.

How to avoid making dumb decisions

Predictably Irrational by Dan Ariely is a data-based look at how the human mind makes irrational choices again and again, and is often unaware of doing so. Instaread’s Summary of Predictably Irrational by Dan Ariely is an in depth analysis of the book which also offers strategies for identifying situations when we make irrational decisions and how to avoid them. This is a comprehensive overview of the book; a great resource for busy readers seeking help in deciding among the many books being published. I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my unbiased review.
