Wonderful learning tool for children. As they advance, there is more to learn from this book.
I run a program where we give books away to children, so I view many children's books. I also work in a facility where we have baby showers for staff frequently. I always buy this book to give as a first gift for the newborn. As the child develops, they can learn more thinking skills from this book. The art is wonderful as well.

It's deeper than the words. ;)
I was a nanny for years, & this was my favorite book to read to my little guy. It really is the best.Every page has a letter of the alphabet on it, but if you look at the pictures, all the pictures correspondence with that letter as well. For instance, the 'L' page has a lion, lemons, a ladder, a leopard, a ladybug, etc. So even though the words may only point out one thing that 'L' starts with, it gives you so many other options of 'L' things through the pictures. This was really great to introduce to my little guy. Soon he started recognizing things on the page & would start showing me what everything was. It really helped with his vocabulary & his overall interest in learning the names of the things around him.I just bought this book again, for my brother who now has a 1yr old.I would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone with little kids.BUT DON'T JUST READ THE WORDS.. look deeper into the photos. Your little ones want to learn. ;)

Great way to teach ABC's
My 2yo daughter loves this book. I noticed her interest in learning her ABC's and wanted to get her a book for the holidays, but the one I wanted was back ordered. I decided to go with this one and I am so glad I did. The illustrations are awesome. I love how each illustration shows multiple objects that start with the corresponding letter, not just the main image, so as she gets better with the letters we can start finding all the objects in the illustration that also start with the lettet on the page. Another cute, yet subtle addition is how the illustrations continue to make a story, like focusing on different parts of a scenery. For example the hot air balloon for the letter B shows up later in the background on another page. They did a really nice job with this book! Best part is, my daughter picked up the alphabet very quickly (within 2 weeks), and also started picking up on lower case letters (since the book shows both) even though I only focused on learning the upper case ones first. It is currently one of her favorite books.

Great Book for Babies and Children
I read this to my children over 10 years ago and just purchased it for a friend having a baby. The illustrations are beautiful and each page has several images all starting with the letter on the page which is fun for kids to search and find. Since this is a board book it is great for babies and children of all ages.

Surprising! Best Book I've bought for my daughter
WOW. Why don't more people know about this fantastic book??First, you should know that I love books. And I've started to fall in love with buying my daughter great, beautiful, special books as well. Wandering around little book stores and finding gems for her is now a hobby. And this is my favorite!Why?1. The pictures are gorgeous. I've read this 100s of times and never get tired of the art. It's not a book with pictures for kids; it's more like a book with art that kids and adults will enjoy.2. It's whimsical and surprising. There are little visual jokes in it. This makes it interesting to read 100 times, which your child will ask you to do.3. It's smart- on each page there is hidden somewhere a picture of the word on the next page (so the A page has a small bit of the B (balloon) picture in it). This makes it fun and even a tiny bit challenging- SO welcome in toddler books!!4. It helps teach the ABCs. That's always good.

The book is nice with a vintage look
The book is nice with a vintage look, and page are very thick. I like how it's presented but I have a regret, in the image there is other word beginning with the letter highlighted so why to don't put them down too? Because when I said to my daughter yes it's a cow and I show her the word if I told her there is also a cat, she look at the word cow thinking its cat! In the mean time it's great if you only focus on the alphabet but too bad we can't take advantage of the nice illustration to do a introduction to read.

Beautiful illustrations but many phonetic errors
I bought this book for my 4 year old as we love the other books by this author such as 'Listen listen' and 'Counting'. As expected the illustrations are beautiful and there is lots to look for and talk about on each page. However, I have a huge issue that there are many errors in this book when teaching your child to recognise letters and to read using phonics. For example 'g is for giraffe' is incorrect, phonetically g is for goat or gate, but not giraffe which is pronounced with a j.'o is for owl' is incorrect too, phonetically o is for orange but owl is the ow sound.and 'u is for unicorn' is also incorrect, phonetically u is for umbrella or under but not unicorn!I would really love this book to be corrected and reprinted, because it has so much potential but unfortunately I would not recommend it due to it's glaring errors in terms of early years learning.

Something interesting on every page
Beautiful illustrations, with lots of interesting things to look at on every page.Although each page is dedicated to a single letter, many of the objects appear repeatedly throughout the book. Some things appear on the page before they're due - so A has a balloon, B has cows, C has a dog etc. All this helps to make repeated reading much more interesting, and suitable for a wider age range.(The 'Look Inside' view shown on Amazon.co.uk shows a list of objects in the book and uses US English - ladybug, Jell-O etc . The board book I received doesn't have this list and uses British English.)

Unusual but a firm favourite
At first I was a bit put off by the style of the pictures but it has really grown on me as a favourite when my daughter asks me to read it to her.Great idea that there are several other things in the pictures to spot!

Beautiful & clever little stories
Beautiful illustrations, great play on pictures & alphabet, plus clever little threads of stories running through various pages. Good one for an adult to help early learners start to link pictures, objects & sounds...stimulating enough for children to sit with alone, too.
