ASUS SDRW-08D2S-U Lite 8x External DVD-RW Drive - Black

This drive was purchase to work with an Asus Windows 8 Laptop purchased for my daughter. We have had it for a couple of days and it works fine. I have not tried it with a DVD film as Microsoft has removed Media Centre from Windows 8 standard. However that was not the main reason I bought it. It is light and slim and very portable. It is not officially compatible with Windows 8 so buyer beware. That said I have found no issues so far. The Asus web site is not intuitive and I found it impossible to log a technical sales request to clarify this unless I lived in China or the USA!

this is a fantastic product it looks good and performs good, some external dvd you cant install windows on your pc with because they need drivers to work, but this will you can install windows on a pc with this no problem , i use test benchs not pc cases so i dont like to have a sata drive fitted , this drive is perfect fr me i can just plug it in when i need a drive to iinstall windows or a game or some software its a perfect product

This works straight out of the box for Win7. It's also lightweight (but not flimsy) and portable. Quickly detects fastest operating speeds. Only caveat is that it really needs 2 x USB to function properly (one power, one data). The cord is not long enough if you have 1 USB on each side of the laptop - an extension is needed.

I purchased this so that I could install Office 2007 on my new Asus 'notebook'. It plugged straight in and worked right away without any problems. This notebook has two USBs next to each other, so the double USB lead was ideal; it seemed designed to fit. I realise that it might be less convenient on a PC that lacks this facility.

Worked first time. Good quality. Only thing you have to watch out for is that there are 2 USB ports used so that the correct power is delivered. That's ok if you have another USB port. So make sure you have at least 3 on your laptop. that way you can use a USB hub on the remaining one.

This is a multi purpose player and plays most formats including MK4 files. Also willl delete dvds with the correct software, Have vlc media player but beware if playing Ram dvd you have to pick correct player to read discs. Easy to connect and play back dvd's , nice price and looks good

Not known Christmas present

I bought this as my ASUS laptop DVD-writer broke down. I've only written a few discs so far, but it has performed very well and up to my expectations. I didn't even have to use the software CD that came with it, as the computer recognised it automatically.
